• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

QUannie, thank U for that prayer, but please pray expecially hard for me,I feel like I've really screwed up bad.I read the Pilgrims Progress and if all this illness is a test and everything in this book I feel like I've failed the test, and fell for the lies as i try to choose truth and move on. I just don't understand why if u have a illness like this Scrupolosity and bad thoughts why God would allow the devil to get a hand on us.It makes me terribly sad. Please pray for me.

jewellj,
I am praying for you!!
I'm so sorry you are hurting!!!

Matthew 12:20 "He will not crush those who are weak,or quench the smallest hope, until He brings full justice with His final victory."NLT

The Psalms are great to read in difficult times...David cried out to the Lord in all His trouble, depression, fear ect..they may encourage you too!

Cry out to Him..Psalm 30:10 "Hear me LORD, and have mercy on me. Help me O LORD."

What ever is going on in your head or heart do not give up! Turn to Jesus. Find a scripture you can write out on an index card and memorize, repeat it to yourself if you can, and when the thoughts are ragging, say "NO" to them and repeat your scripture! I know it is hard!!!!!

You are so valuable to Him?

Matthew 10:29~31 "Not even a sparrow, worth only half a penny, can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows."

Romans 3:22 "We are made right in God's sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done"
Scripture is a mighty tool!
God loves you!!!

HI Jewell,
God deals with us as individuals. One persons trial is entirely different from anothers. One persons affliction is different from anothers also.
But every Christian suffers affliction and tribulation in one form or another.
You have to understand that OCD, will always attack that which is most important to you. If you weren't a Christian it would center on something else but that would not mean that it wasn't a real illness called OCD and NOT a spiritual problem.
For instance. Let's say that a person who is NOT a Christian has coronary artery disease and another person who IS a Christian also has it. Which of these two people is being attacked by Satan? Which of these two people are sinning by having coronary artery disease?
What I'm trying to say is that afflictions fall on Christians as well as non-Christians because of the fall.
The non-Christian can have OCD as well. Their worst OCD thought will usually center on whatever is the most important thing to them, perhaps their health or fear of harming a loved one. The Christian with OCD can have those thoughts too but also will have thoughts that center on what is most important to them : their relationship with Christ and salvation.
It is still OCD, a real illness, a real affliction. OCD is treated with the same meds. and same therapies in the Christian as well as the non-Christian.
For me, I trust in His word which tells me that His Grace is sufficient for me even if He says "No" about removing the thorn of OCD. Living with an anxiety Disorder has humbled me and made me more compassionate toward others who suffer. It has been because of my anxiety disorder that He has been able to work in and through my life in ways that always amaze me.
Paul said that "God's power was being made perfect in and through his affliction", not in spite of it. He went on to say - "Therefore I will glory in my affliction that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
It can be a confusing journey for those of us with OCD to seperate our illness from our relationship with Christ. But the affliction is just that, only an affliction.
The faith position of the person with OCD is like that of the hymnwriter who penned these words..... "The flames shall not hurt thee, my only design is, thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine."
Praying for you.
