• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My wife has had severe nerve pain for most of her life. Some doctors just called it nerve pain while others called it fibromyalgia. Either way the symptoms were there. Most of the time she felt like electricity shocking her when I would touch her skin. Even the wind could cause pain.

After a while she began to believe nothing could help and that she just had to live with it. But today she went to see a neurologist (she had seen them before). I had told her to tell them that she was in constant pain and even though she told them before about it and they placed her on meds that only helped a little she should tell them the true depth of the pain.

She asked the doctor if it was possible to feel better. His answer was a simple yes. She spent years suffering and now here she is just telling the truth about exactly how bad it is and he tells her there is hope. So he increased her medicine (which apparently the one that helped a little was the LOWEST dose).

Now after taking it tonight she told me she felt something moving down her back and like her nerves were being lubricated. She said the pins and needles are gone and she asked me to touch her face. I caressed her face gently (normally she would almost scream in pain) and she said it felt like "a happy hug."

She said my hand had always felt like sandpaper and hard, but that they were soft. We are so thankful for this and I wanted to give a report of praise and encouragement NOT to give up and believe you have to just deal with it.

I have a condition somewhat like your wife's condition, I have Small Fiber neuropathy throughout my whole body, I feel numbness, pain, burning, sandpaper feeling all of the time. I have had this condition for 3 years! What medication did they give her that helped? I am also a strong Christian and trust the Lord, but this condition is so severe. Thank you for any help you can give me, prayer included in that! Blessings, Jan

She was put on Lyrica. The increase in dosage helped her.

I took Lyrica but couldn't tolerate it. I might have to rethink that and see if my doc's ok with me trying it again.
I thank the Lord your wife is better. :) Nerve pain and fibro are just horrible.:(
