The finite suffering of an infinite being is an interesting question. I believe Jesus totally and completely died - every aspect of Him was dead. I don't believe that the God part stayed alive while the human part died, I simply think that Jesus died. I am not a substance dualist (as you might be able to tell from my prior comments).
I think Jesus was God on earth in human form, or at least, that is how the early Church understood Him to be.
It is a very human flaw. Gosh, the people who take the bible literally think that the earth is at the center of an entire universe created just for humanity, and that everything revolves around them. If that isn't the epitome of narcissism, self-centeredness, and arrogance, then I don't know what is.
So Jesus was his own father? That is messed up.
LOL Sarah you should meet my father in law. He is an atheist and he still thinks that everything revolves around him. This is a human condition I'm afraid, not necessarily a Christian one.
I know, but I cannot help but feel that genesis is one of humanity's biggest ego trips.
It wouldn't be alone. It is by no means a unique piece of literature... many many cultures have an equivalent. And I could point to equivalent "ego trips" of today's culture as well.

Ok...I'll have some more questions for you, if you're interested in hashing out a definition for god that I can agree doesn't defy logic. But I've got to get some sleep tonight.

Bingo, and therein lies your problem.
Prophecies claimed and fulfilled! All within the same book that's authorship is questionable which also claims, with circular reason, that it is true.
Just go ahead and claim what you know you have to claim in order to justify your cognitive dissonance: Faith
Because you know you can't prove us wrong with anything objective.
Then define your god for me, in a way that ISN'T ILLOGICAL.
You have utterly failed to do this.
Your definitions cannot contradict each other. Just like I can't be born in both 1950 (definition 1) AND 1970 (definition 2), your god cannot be both omnipotent (definition 1) AND incapable of lying (definition 2).
Here, I'll even use syllogism:
P1: omnipotent beings can do all things
P2: the Christian God cannot lie
C: the Christian God is not omnipotent
That is a very good question.
But, it would take about an hour in a face-to-face class, and I don't think it is worthwhile to do here.
What the crap? You don't understand do you?
Prophecies are foretelling of the future!! The Bible is full of them. 2500, 500 still to happen in the future.
They happened as they said they would.
Do you know probability? People did the math to see what the chances are of at least one prophecy fulfilled. Take a look at this:
Not that you'll read it, but here is a page about failed bible prophecies:
Failed biblical prophecies - RationalWiki
Incidentally, it always strikes me as funny that the bible was so ineptly put together that it can't even fulfill all its own prophecies, which is pretty much a doddle to manufacture retrospectively but apparently was beyond the bible authors.
Wow and you believe this stuff??? Rational Wiki for Biblical Prophecies???
That's not going to work with me. Use good sources Mr. Strawberry.

I've often wondered - If the Devil is "The Deceiver" and as I've so often heard "God is evident in his creation"...
How are we to know that the Devil didn't write the Bible by whispering in the ears of the inspired?
With this in mind, would it not make more sense to believe in what the Nature of God's creation tells us?
Just a question that often strikes me when people so vehemently defend the literal word.
.
It is no fun sitting on the sidelines, drumming up "what ifs". A big question mark.
Speak about ....... but have no true understanding.
It's your life.
