  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are no rules about crucifixes or crosses..its a preference. Catholics could wear both or neither. I just looked down at my hand and laughed because i have three different rings with crosses on them on my fingers right now. None of them are crucifixes. I have a wedding band with a heart and a cross in the middle of it. I have a sterling silver antiqued cross ring on my middle finger of right hand and i have a reversible silver/blue stone cross ring on my right index finger. Honestly i change my rings around all the time because i have so many and am a jewelry freak, but till just now i didnt realize all 3 of my rings had crosses on them.
I do have a crucifix hanging in my front hall and its the first thing you see upon entering the house. Both my sons have crucifixes hanging in their rooms.
I guess i am more for crosses on jewelry and crucifixes on walls..but i have no rules about it..lol

Please don't construe this as debate I just need to offer on element of correction. Luther did not remove the Corpus from the crucifix! Lutherans are definitely crucifix people! I wear a crucifix just about exclusively (for reasons similar to yours). Also...here is a picture of my wedding ring...(modeled after Martin Luther's wedding ring) it also has a crucifix on it. I have a beautiful large (over 3 feet) 80+ year old Christus Rex crucifix above our fireplace mantel. I don' t know the exact numbers but a large number of Lutheran churches have crucifixes over the altar instead of a plain cross.

I don't know which group was the first to prefer the plain cross over the crucifix, but it wasn't the Lutherans of the Reformation. Now some modern day Lutherans can be seen as Romophobic but their opinions would not necessarily be representative of confessional Lutherans.

Peace

Rose

I stand corrected an offer my apologies. Carlstadt and Calvin were the main culprits in throwing off the yoke of Rome.
