IMHO...if you shoot the squirrels and then leave them for the maggots, that might be considerd senseless killing. (Again, IMHO, it's definitely bad sportsmanship, anway.) If you're shooting them to use them for something, then I don't see how that can be a sin.

Not for the maggots, food for a young tree :)
But seriously, your answer is the basis for the question. Some Christians say it's ok, some say no.
For example, if I kill a deer I will butcher it and give the meat away to the local homeless shelter, which I have absolutely NO problem with. However, I've been known just to pick off a squirrel, rabbit, racoon, etc. just for fun and then plant them next to a young tree as fertilizer. Hunting for sport is fun. Is it a sin ?

I have mixed emotions on the subject. One part of me loves the hunt and the kill and the other part thinks it's senseless killing.
What say ye ?

I think thou hast dominion over the beasts of the field to do with what ye will. I'd prefer you not waste what you kill being mindful of the fact that God concerns himself with fallen fowl. That being said, when I was a teenager I used to take my shotgun and do the same thing, only with birds.

Well, if you're just doing it for fun, and not making use of the animal, it may be wasteful, but I don't read where it's sin. Fertilizer is a use. And squirrels can be annoying. But the real problem I have is that my business has prevented me from having time to hunt for the past 10 years or so (fall is busy time), and I moved within city limits 4 years ago, so I can't hunt squirrels in my back yard legally. So in announcing this here you are provoking me to the sin of envy, and I resemble that!Shame on you!

No, I don't believe it would be a sin, but it would be a waste of two good squirrels. We Cajuns (and other peoples of Louisiana still eat squirrel.A friend and I were talking just a couple of days ago about how we could hardly wait for hunting season. Soon as we get a mess of Squirrels we are going to fix a feast at work of squirrel and brown gravy over rice (a little known Cajun delicacy.I recommend a you eat them with brown gravy (over rice) or in a gumbo!!While eating them you can remember the Cajun motto "Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler!!"Bon manger (pronounced bawn mahn-shay),Kenith

That is one of the many reasons why I moved out of the city.

I know you're from Canada - do you live in Windsor?? That's practically my backyard (just a hop, skip and jump over the bridge or through the tunnel).

Plus they have a Perani's Hockey World:thumbsup:

I actually live there 8 months of the year, since I go there for school (University of Windsor). Wow, if you are that close to the Bridge, you are like... lol... just a walk away from my school (that is, if you could walk across the bridge). You live in detroit? That's awesome!

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of Perani's Hockey World, you'll just have to tell me where that is located in Windsor. I don't go to Detroit often, but I will be going there at elast once for a hockey game in december (Go leafs go!)

To the glory of God,

Randy

I'm in Toledo (45 minutes south), I've actually heard some folks refer to it as a suburb of Detroit (I don't think so). We do go to a couple of Wings games each year (when my daughter is out of college we'll look at a season ticket package). I do like Detroit - lots of fun places to go. Chris Chelios recently opened a second Cheli's Chili just down the way from Comerica Park (he does visit his restaurants a lot).

Perani's is @ 7540 Tecumseh Road East in Windsor (they do have a website). I don't know exactly where it is - my husband always drove there. When my son was playing hockey we'd get some of his equipment there - better selection than here and with the exchange better prices.

You must carefully look into your heart and ask yourself honestly if you enjoy the killing of an animal. In all biblically allowed for killing of animals, I have never seen anywhere enjoyment of the practice mentioned. However, enjoyment of killing was neither mentioned nor forbidden to my knowledge. I have also had this urge upon occasions in my life, but no longer do so as that was not why Adam was created, and the primitive integrity of that first, perfect man is where we are all headed back towards, sooner or later.
