Has anyone heard of a peculiar man on the radio by the name of Roy Masters? He says he is a Jewish Christian and although he seems biblical, and has some profound understandings of human behavior or psychology, he doesn't believe in meditating on Bible scripture, but instead on a meditation he teaches. It seems like something you'd find in eastern religion.

This meditation is supposed to have been an old ancient secret that the Christians used to use, to get closer or in direct contact to God (I don't remember exactly how he explains that). He says that if one practices the meditation they become a Christian, although they may not know it ! It is how he was transformed from a Jew to a Christian.

I'm not a follower of his, but just out of mere curiosity, I am wondering if anyone knows where in Christian history that this meditation is documented. I haven't listened to him much, and each time I have never heard him identify the source. It just would be interesting to know.

thanks:)

Contemplative Prayer is, in general, the term Christianity has used to describe meditation. It's nothing magic, and it can't make you a Christian. The point of contemplative prayer is to "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). It's markedly distinct to what is generally practiced in the Dharmic religions (Buddhism, Hinduism, etc). Contemplative prayer, also, does use meditating upon the Scriptures.

I have no idea who this fellow is, nor the "meditation" he speaks about, but I find it a bit disconcerting to say that one can do X to become a Christian, especially when the X that is to be done isn't what Scripture has said.

I actually just finished listening to a 2009 audio of a debate between him and Walter Martin, the Radio Bible man. I actually never heard of Walter Martin, and always thought that Hank Hannegraaf was the Bible Answer Man, but in any case, I thought he did a great job, and it was very, very interesting and rewarding, to have a strong Christian person interview Masters. It helped strengthen what I had already believed, specifically,as far as the divinity of Christ.

I believe so,too, and it seems to be a characteristic of Christian Mystics. They are more about experiencing and having a feeling from God, rather than meditating on His Word, the Bible, for revelation. Having said that though, he doesn't seem fit the description of a Christian Mystic completely, because he teaches against emotionalism. It almost seems contradictory, and it's hard to explain if one has never heard him, but his meditation apparently helps one to learn to stand back from emotion and it dehypnotizes (increases awareness), which he says is mankind's biggest problem. I think a lot of his followers seem to follow him despite the fact he doesn't believe Jesus was God, because the meditation has helped or healed them of various diseases and mental disorders, and his insights into certain areas of life are profound, which I tend to believe some are... It's hard to understand what the source of his revelations are actually coming from when he meditates.

'It's hard to understand what the source of his revelations are actually coming from when he meditates. '

I found out more.. and big YIKES

From: " How to Survive Roy Masters part 1 (also parts 2,3,4,) on Youtube:

"You're wise to check Roy's teachings against the scriptures. Most of his followers neither (do not )know the scriptures nor do they do spot checks on what Roy teaches. This is compounded by him telling his followers NOT TO STUDY THE BIBLE. He discourages any kind of study and especially of the Bible, so his followers are seriously lacking in understanding of what it says. This to me is very wrong.. "

I consider that Roy Masters is New Age, he delivers false doctrine and is ravening wolf, in sheep's clothing. I have listened to him back when I was new in my walk and ignorant. I have cancelled, cut-off and rebuked the entire experience in the name of Jesus Christ.
