well again, you put it all on you, when you said we focus...
so what happens if we don't focus, no growth?
se what I mean? if your focussing is the center, that is your will at the steering wheel.
So you believe that we are all mindless robots who have no ability to think or act for ourselves? Why then are we judged on the things we did, on our works as Christians, if God does them for us? We have to cooperate with grace for grace to be effective in our lives. This is just but one way, a MAJOR way, to do so... Paul mentions it in Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Colossians, and perhaps others, but those are some of his major works! Surely he thought it was an important element to the Christian walk, so should we.
Surely you don't think God's grace is so extensively that He controls our every thought and whim like we are all string puppets that God controls from Heaven (like Pinnochio). Even Paul said bring every thought under obedience to Christ(2 Corinthians 10:5) If they were that way because Christ makes them so then why would Paul so to do it? Kind of redundant and pointless don't ya think?
then we have to wonder what it means to get our minds on Christ above? God displayed Paul in to the weakness arena. So getting his mind on Christ, meant getting in tuned with weakness, not his own tools, they were useless alot of times, death at work in Paul, was having the mind of Christ.
1 cor 4:9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.
Frog, I am not advocating works of self... I don't know how else to express that to you...
I re-read 2 Corinthians 10 just for reclarification and I notice Paul uses that pesky word, "we" there.... If I were to say, we are having a discussion, that means me and you correct? or me and my party... but we includes the person of whom the term is used by...
So when Paul says we take captive every thought and bring it under obedience to Christ, he is including himself in that...
As I said in my OP and I'll let Paul explain it himself...
1 Thes 5:16-18
16Rejoice always, 17pray continually, 18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus.
Just as he and Silas did in the Philippian jail in Acts 16 when the foundation was shaken.....
Hi,
I believe the KJV nails it to the obedience of Christ. Arguments and lofty positions submit to Christ's obedience.
Grace to you.
Actually. I do not think it is as plain as how many interpret that scripture. These are the very words of Paul (with English translation of course)
Romans 8:5-8
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Everyone, how can that be misconstrued? It really is that plain!
Those who live by the flesh have their minds set on the flesh! Those in this condition can not please God and are hostile to Him!
Those who live by the Spirit have their minds set on the Spirit! Those in this condition have life and peace!
How is this an improper or wrong teaching? How can this be improved upon? I am simply re-emphasizing something I felt strongly the Lord wanted me to.
Colossians 3:1-3
3 If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
This is possible for all who believe! We have the mind of Christ in us! That is a birth right of the Spirit! (1 Corinthians 2:16)
You must believe this! It really is that simple! Immerse yourself in the Spirit, in the heavenly, in the Father and Son! Be consumed with Him! It is that simple not because our minds accomplish it, but the focus of our thoughts does.
Haha Froggie are you an AOG minister? I've known quite a few who say they are about to close their sermons about 5 times before they actually do so.
I don't see things the way you do, I just hope the message reaches those who will accept it.... God bless!
