• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A new year.

This started more than a decade ago.

While growing up my step daughter had a friend Viki that spent a lot of time at our home. Home for her was an alcoholic mother and a long string of her mothers boyfriends that were varying shades of crap. Viki at times just lived at our house. She is a very sweet girl and I took it upon myself to try to look after her.

She got pregnant and married young. Six kids and a decade later her and her beau (JW) do the best they can, and I try to smooth over bumps that come their way as I can.

---------------------------------------------------------------

I met Ken through the church. The priest had been trying to help him but Ken is an end stage alcoholic. Ken wanted to join the Orthodox Church and the priest said that if he could string together one month of sobriety he would be made a catechcumen (beginner) But in three years he just could not master even a month sober.

The moment the Priest found out I was successful in AA he introduced us and I became his sponsor. I started by giving him a big book and a note book and directions to make a list of every time he tried to quit but couldn't and a list of every time he got drunk when he shouldn't have.

Kens wife waited to join the Church herself because she wanted the whole family (three kids) to be brought into the Church together.

I talked to Ken sunday afternoon and he related that he cried as he was brought into the Church sunday morning with his family.

------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't at church sunday morning because saturday night about 9 pm I got a call.

It was Viki's phone but wasn't her, it was her husband JW. He was distraught. He had been drinking too much too often and all his efforts to stop had failed. He was in tears with the shame. I missed Kens ceremony because I took JW to his first meeting sunday morning.

Sent him home with a big book and a notebook with instructions to make a list of every time he tried to quit but couldn't and a list of every time he he got drunk when he shouldn't have.

2012 is off to a roaring start.
