• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

first off an OCD question. Is it OCDish or is it normal to cover a public toilet seat with toliet paper before you use it.

My fiance and I just got a new place to live after we are married. The problem is it is a bit old and currently really dirty. I look at the kitchen and think "there is no way I can eat anything that comes from that kitchen" and because it was built around the time of lead paints I am afraid to drink the tap water for fear of lead piping and Im afraid that the paint if it is lead will make us sick.
I am not usually a germ obsesser but this place might make me one. I try to remind myself that this place is a gift from God and he will not give us a snake if we ask for a fish.

Op I'm not usually a germ obsessor but it has come up a few times, mainly whenever I touch raw meat (or think that what I'm eating is raw meat), or whenever I pet a dog (I think the dog smell infests everything I own so I have to wash my hands thoroughly).

However to answer your question, the first part about putting paper on a toilet seat - no that's not just OCD. Lots of non-OCD people do that all the time in public restrooms... in the women's restrooms they usually have toilet seat paper covers to place on it instead of having to put the toilet paper there yourself.

As far as the kitchen goes, again I don't know if this is totally OCD because it's a very dirty kitchen as you described it. If it was a very clean kitchen and you still felt it was dirty and you scrubbed it from ceiling to floor, and scrubbed it again and again, then that would be OCD. If you're worried about lead paint in the water, buy bottled water or buy a water filter. This may or may not be a legitimate concern (I don't know how lead paint could get in water, but I suppose it could happen), but I might do it to be on the safe side.
