But at least back then, people could come to the table of their own accord and ask to be considered.

Now, at the very least ... they'll need to buddy up just to get nominated.

When people see a poll, they'll vote for who they know. At least with the old system, we took time to take a look at what they've contributed. That will be entirely overlooked ... their whole body of work (evidenced in their posts) will be ignored ... what will be the most likely option for choosing a person to serve on staff is : Do I know them? Do I like them?

That's a pure popularity contest.

Concur.

There will have to be something set in place to deal with this problem, while still allowing forums to govern themselves.

There is no entitlement in Christian ministry.

no...this isn't right...I believe Erwin owes the people, the hard working staff that gave their blood, sweat and tears to running this site. I'm speechless. He just tossed us out to the wolves and isn't looking back. Now anyone with a grudge can vote you off staff, even those who have give 5 or more years!! Now non-Christians can come on here and be staff and effect the way this site is run...it's going to go down the tubes.

God does give us a way of knowing beyond a reasonable doubt through their fruits.

Matthew 7:15-20

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits."
that is for judging prophets, not whether or not one is a Christian

The Bible says that Christians will be known by their love for others not their adherence to the Nicene or other creeds.
Amen!!!

Only God knows peoples hearts. Only God knows if someone is Christian or not. That being so, how can we possibly say to someone that they are or not. They know their relationship with Jesus Christ not us. So yes, I would take their word for that.
Instead of asking if they are Christian the bible says to ask if the Son of God is come in the flesh, would you go with that answer?

On this thread I have met some people I have never seen before, and wow I am sad by their behavior.

I belong to another forum, it ia a beautiful deep place for Christian women. While you do have to be a woman to post there, you do not need to be a Christian. However, you do need to follow the Christian rules. You cannot cause strife. I think that with proper boundaries, this too could work, but that just like a small child there will first need to be quite a few boundaries as the culture adjusts and Leaders (by this I mean by their personality not by their title) show how to behave around others, once that is in place the strict boundaries could be peeled away slowly....

HOW can this be called Christian when we let unbelievers run it??

Overreacting I think. Perhaps we could wait to see what God's Spirit is doing before denouncing it? Moreover I recall that the Spirit was working with Cornelius before he became a christian. We need to step-back and be willing to 'let go', I think.

I realize you're upset right now, but... people are going to disagree with you. That doesn't mean your opinion here isn't valued and being heard. I don't think Erwin wants anyone to feel driven out by this; perhaps give it a chance to see how it works out?

It's clear that among many people, the idea of a non-Christian having authority over you is upsetting. However, I don't think it's as dire as it's being made out. There's very little chance the areas that are currently Christians-only, or indeed any areas apart from the Debate forums, would end up with non-Christians mods, and I really don't see us reaching the highest positions. You'll still have your Christian leadership, especially as Erwin seems firmly back in charge :)

But what about GT, Eschatology, Mariology, Christian Current events?

I suppose we'll figure it out. Folks will either vote me back in or kick me out.

I can't wait until the PMs sent to moderators for discussion about suicide etc are made available for public view. Clearly this is something that we all need to vote on.

ALL ready this isn't working...ERWIN, can you see that? LOOK at all the chaos and unrest etc. COME on. WAKE up.

Consensus is a messy way of getting to a decision. Most people have probably not dealt with it in groups larger than 3-5 (for example, trying to decide where to go for dinner is a perennial favorite discussion in my family)/

It may take much longer than we are used to come to specific decisions, especially since we are using an asynchronous mode of communication (meaning that we're not all in the same place at the same time discussing things, but are reading and responding at different times). However, the decision, when arrived at, will be representative of the people who participated in the discussion, and spoke the loudest.

There will always be those who make their point, but don't bring it up again if it gets overlooked by those dealing with someone else's louder, flashier post/idea. Without a human element (like a mediator/facilitator), that will always be a concern. But it will get us away from top-down decision making that does not include the people most affected by it. And I think that is the point.

Yes, this particular thread is chaotic. But do keep in mind that the discussion is all over the place. I would assume that once we get the wikis in place, we would be talking about one item at a time. Without facilitators to help the flow of the conversation, it will still be messy. But I do not anticipate it being as chaotic as this thread (or even some of the old DR threads, for that matter).

I have my reservations about how this will all pan out. There are aspects to this plan that rather disturb me. But I am willing to see how it works for the next few months, and to serve as best I can to ease the transition.

you're so horribly mistaken Erwin. People can't moderate themselves. Let's just remove all police and all laws and all jail sentences-let's create an anarchy so that everyone creates their own rules and their own laws-and when all the staff is gone and CF is in complete anarchy, you'll be running back to the structure that it needs---what we have now is structure and it works!
The site works for Some not for all. It needs to change and be open to the move of GOd's Spirit. The choices are not just between overcontrol and anarchy, you know.
