In the CO areas, we have got to be a little more sensitive as to how we talk about others.

I am scandalized when I visit other Christian areas here at CF and read the gossip and the horrible things that Christians here are saying about other Christian faiths.

Things like accusing the Catholics and Orthodox Christians of Mary Worship which is totally and absolutely false. In Catholicism and in Orthodoxy, veneration is not adoration.

Maybe an open forum would stop this nonsense once and for all. We are not to judge, neither in the forums nor in the Staff rooms. Neither should Christians label people as anti-semitics just because they don't believe in the Rapture.

Thanks, Erwin, for clearing the air here and opening the windows and doors.

It seems the old school will always hide the sins of the old school comrades whereas God hides the sins of none
Does God publish Sinners monthly? OH BTW - God DOES forget our sins.
Is. 43:25 , even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

Mods weren't nominated previously, they applied - and if (at least on my team, and the previous team I was on) someone was invited to apply, it wasn't for popularity, it was for their posting style, their ability to interact with others, etc. I could see how it might have been considered a popularity thing previously, but for me (and others on my team) we didn't look at popularity, we looked at member's posting styles/habits, etc.
Ya but what were saying is that now mods will be elected on how many friends they have not how good at ministry they are or if they love Jesus.

Honestly I don't see the problem. I don't see why an athiest would go into the denominational forums and cause ruckus. Why? Why do you think that would happen?
I don't know maybe the behavior on GA.

You probably don't fully understand what a "moderator" is supposed to do then.
Exactly...

I would worry less about an atheist moderator closing a thread discussing aspects of Christianity...

Because it didn't line up with their own opinion...

Can a Christian be possessed?...

Anyone?...

Okay, whew. I'm done multi quoting people the thread just keeps growing.
I'm very disappointed.

Doesn't sound rude or mean at all. It's truth and what many are thinking, but not saying.

Yes, but supposedly this was a Christian site. Therefore anyone moderating should be Christian.
We don't let unbelievers in to lead...

I wouldn't want them to be my moderator.
I wouldn't want to follow their secular way of thinking or approach to the world in general.
No offense meant toward any athiest.

Yes they can. They can be compassionate, they can be cool, they can be fun people to talk to.
They however should not be enforcing rules on a "Christian" site.

Here gives them one more chance to proselytize.
Have you ever visited GA give me a break.
I had a weak momment once and decided to let it fly in there. I had one Christian pm me and about 6 unbelievers....

Yes, and you know what. I don't want new members coming here unknowingly speaking with people of different religions being swayed.
Protection is gone and now there is no longer an area for Christians to fellowship in harmony when they want to.
This is no longer a "Christian" board. This is a open to all free for all.

Yes they should enforce the rules, with equality and love. BUT unbelievers cannot help in "Uniting all Christians as One Body in Christ"
In fact they want the exact opposite!

I think they can moderate to, on a board that is secular. Oh yeah.

Power hungry we do not need. Most importantly though we need those in power who believe in the Christ we Christians believe died for our sins.
We do NOT need secular leadership.

No one is acting like ONLY Christians can moderate fairly. But where in any congregation as now "Christian Forums" has been likened to...did a unbeliever become an elder?

Because their secular beliefs will be, and I don't mean might be, WILL BE spread around these forums like a stink that no air freshener can remove.

It's not "Christian" anymore by any means. This is now a secular board.
"Uniting All Christians as One" Should be removed as this is misleading and false.

There needs to be equality in the body of Christ. Uniting of Christians with different beliefs. But now the athiests, agnostics and whatevers are being handed the keys to vote on rules, discussions, moderators and can moderate Christians ON a Christian board.
In real life I would not take the advice of a non Christian. I certainly will not do it here. But that is what is going to be done since they will be voting as well. Athiests will vote for athiest and eventually when they start posting in the once Christains Only section. It will become just as much a mad house, probably more, that GA already is!!

Well Like I said NO air freshner will be able to take care of this stink!
The gremlin has been released from the bag..

Not me. My son will no longer be allowed on this SECULAR website and I will NEVER give another DIME!!

Exactly. It will happen though...

Don't be so sure Lisa.

The doors have been swung wide open for the wolves to attack.
No place off limits. Not even our kids online have a safe place to roam in these woods now.

ALOT. A whole lot. Gather together the athiest at ~E~ so they can decide on their new non Christian leaders will be.

This is not a time for hugs. I may vomit. Anyone have a paper bag?!

It has to do with non believers enforcing rules on a Christian board.

Speak for yourself in what you do and how you minister to people. I was on staff, but didn't advertise who I did or did not speak to.

....Or Uniting unbelievers and believers alike as one body on a website! VOMIT spews....

Party is over!!
Overreacting much are we? and not taking advice from someone because of their religion? grow the heck up. My advice is as valid as anyone on the forum, unless of course they have some advanced training.

AMEN!!

I am very concerned that instead of bring CF to his vision, Erwin just let it go out of his hands.

Glad to see you are still here Erwin would you be kind enough to address the congregational fora issue that a number here have inquired about?
The idea would be that individual forums have membership that can form their own rules through a wiki/collaborative process. If the current congregational forum wants to ban debate, and if the members of that congregational forum vote to agree, then it is so. Why should a person from another section care? They can request and form their own forums for their own group. Moderation will be decentralised according to each forum/category - members that the forum members respect get voted to be their mods. Mods usually only have power to moderate their own forums. Reports go into forums that are subforums of these forums/categories. It's a massive restructure that I need to embark on.

The aim is to make this a true community where people have the power to ultimately moderate themselves.

This is a good approach, but unfortunately, those in authority might not be choosing staff based on the same standards.
But at least back then, people could come to the table of their own accord and ask to be considered.

Now, at the very least ... they'll need to buddy up just to get nominated.

When people see a poll, they'll vote for who they know. At least with the old system, we took time to take a look at what they've contributed. That will be entirely overlooked ... their whole body of work (evidenced in their posts) will be ignored ... what will be the most likely option for choosing a person to serve on staff is : Do I know them? Do I like them?

That's a pure popularity contest.

Obviously it remains to be seen if this will happen or not, but given a fair amount of time ... I think the probability is high.

The thing that might keep it less likely for that happening is the loss of all secret fora. Though, I wonder how reports will be handled now.
