Inevitably when the topic of GOD comes up right behind it comes tragedy and the never ending question why?
Now most people are familiar with the popular Christian response GOD works in mysterious ways. Now this response is far inadequate for the analytical mind but for all reading this you should know that GOD works in mysterious ways. is a PC phrase intended to sidestep a grieving person. When someone has experienced a tragedy the last thing they want to hear is someone rattling off all the real possible reasons for the occurrence because in the face of tragedy Christians are often cautious and intentionally avoid listing reasons that would make GOD appear coldly shrewd and uncaring. But since the question continues I will throw caution in the wind and rattle of just a few cold reality reasons to cause or allow tragedies. And trust me if you were GOD with the same objectives you would do the same things.
First tragedies is far too vague of a word. What do you mean by tragedies? Pain, death, fear, that debilitating feeling of helpless hopelessness that petrifies and incapacitates when you find out some bad, bad thing happened to a loved one?
So lets break them down
Why would GOD create or allow
Pain= simple enough. Pain is a response to conditions unfavorable to the well being of oneself. In other words pain is practical programmed responses to let the conscience of a created living being know somethings wrong when they might otherwise be unaware. The existence of pain promotes caution and signals the creature that a change is needed.
Death=easy one. Practical population control. Encourages humility. Encourages spiritual reflection and the never ending question of where are we headed. (no wonder GOD never answers this question directly. The question itself works positively in the human mind.)
Also death serves as a practical removal of persons in this world (good and bad).
Fear=practical programmed response to a perceived threat to allow a created living being to recognize danger and avoid it before the danger becomes pain and or death. Very useful emotional program with highly practical purposes.
That bad, bad feeling you get when something unfavorable happens to a loved one= Encourages the question why which ultimately leads the human mind to moral questioning such as what did I do? Or what didnt I do? (Again the unanswered question often produces favorable results.) Encourages empathy not only from the person experiencing it but also those around them. (Its hard to hate someone whose kid just died in a car wreck. Sad but true practical purpose.) Encourages proactive responsibility, such as women whose kids die from drunk drivers form groups to stop drunk drivers therefore saving many other lives. The strength of the bad, bad, emotion is feared by companies so they pay attention to the safety of their product designs therefore saving more lives. Exc exc .
So you see. If I came up with a few you know GOD has a bunch of good reasons to cause or allow tragedy.

Some will say its not fair to cause tragedies things to occur for your own purposes.
First of all its absolutely fair even if GOD creates people to torture them for all eternity. GOD made all and its fair for him to do what ever he wants.
Second . People have a strange sense of justice. They like to ignore all the good things they enjoy and focus only on what they want and dont want to happen. Let me illustrate.
A thirty five year old woman and her seven year old son died in a car crash. Most would consider this a tragedy and maybe this is but when you begin to imply that it is not fair you get way out of line. Remember GOD gave them everything they experience pleasure with. Eyes, ears, nose, tongues, skin, and everything else that gives them pleasure. The people around them in which they enjoy companionship and love, the environment (breezes, flowers pretty things) , and emotions such as love, joy, hope that they enjoyed on a daily basis. Now consider the womans son. Seven years old. But for six years and three hundred and sixty four days the boy enjoyed life and everything that comes along with it. And at the end the boy experienced a couple days of fear, pain and ultimately death. As for the woman, she got an even better deal. She enjoyed thirty four years and three hundred and sixty four days of life and everything that comes with it only to pay a couple days of fear, pain and death. (If the car crash was quick it was only moments.) Now if someone came to me and said Im willing to give you twenty years of life along with every pleasure that goes along with life and at the end of twenty years you have to endure six moths of cancer and die I would take the deal in a minute. Twenty years for six moths. Good deal. Hell, childhood alone is worth a death. Id take it in a second because its a good deal.
Even a life of one day is a good because GOD gave it for free. No one earned the right to come into this world and enjoy all the things in it.
But people dont see things that way. They only see what they want and dont have. But when you say its not right you show you have a warped sense of justice and fair dealing.
