• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

its been about a month since i stopped smoking. i went to the patch for a week then i stopped, im just chewing gum now but im surprised how easy it is for me to stop, i dont have strong withdrawls and when i do i think about something else and in a matter of minutes they go away. is this how it is for you when stopping? thought it would be harder

It was hard at first, I admit. I'd say, "Jess, you aren't smoking anymore after this one, nope, not one." I'd pray on it. Then something terrible would happen, and I'd run off and buy a pack, smoke one and either stare at the rest of the pack until I had another or throw it away.

As you could imagine, it was terribly expensive that way, so I bought the gum for 'emergency' nicotine. But then I realized a great truth - nonsmokers don't smoke. Stupid, right? But all that the world can throw at them, none of them stop and break down for a cigarette. A few nonsmokers even have a wonderful resource to keep their sanity --

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6

I had one piece of the gum, and I leaned on him from then on out. I read more of the Word now and pray more. That last pack of cigarettes was riddled with scripture verses and it's almost been a week. I feel the odd pang, but eh - it can't be worse than hanging on a cross. Everything less than that, I'm sure he's good for. :)

This is the perfect Bible verse for someone trying to quit smoking.

Wow, this is a powerful way to think when we're tempted to do anything that we know we shouldn't do. Just picture the cross and the sacrifice our Christ made for us. There is no greater love.
