He is right about this, although many places and many people ignore Scripture ...
He is wrong about this. See Romans 10:8-13.

All of Scripture is good and edifying, and cause for rejoicing for those who seek God ....

I do believe now that I should be baptized in His name spread his gospel.

Probably a good idea. Thing is, take Winken for instance and no offense towards him...or actually don't take him, it could be anyone with his view. They may say don't worry about baptism, it's all so simple and so forth, just believe/repent, and while that much is true, there may be more. The bible indicates baptism is necessary, so it is not that simple, not even close. I mean what are we supposed to do, throw verses out that indicate baptism as a must? I can't even tell you for sure, but would do it just to be on the safe side. It really is a shame we got things so messed up, there is no clear way know something like that, but that's just what has happened as far as I' can see.

Then we have the part where people say God loves us unconditionally...strongly indicating, we cannot be lost once we are saved. Yet there again, there are verses that say something completely different than that...we need to hang on until the end, keep our guard up and continue to work at it. It's a must to take care of the poor for instance...the scripture on the sheep and goats prove it, plus there are several verses giving lists of things that we can do to keep us out of the kingdom of heaven. IOW there ARE conditions. Of that I am not confused.

This is something you need to work on yourself, and might be best to believe no man when it comes to some of this stuff because it's very seruious business, and our eternal future depends on it. Or I should say listen and ask just as you are doing but don't solely take ours or some know it all preachers word for it. Follow Gods way, not mans. And I should add, you have given no indication you are going to take the wrong path, and you may be aware of all I say, just want to make sure. :)

Pray about it, read that bible, and do just as you are doing here....seek, and ye shall find. If you aren't sure you've found it, keep seeking

In the end we have to live with the consequences of our actions/decisions, and live with it for a long time so all I ask is we all be careful and not put that in the hands of others, not completely anyway....

We cannot take scriptures out of context and then hurl them at each other. There is one Lord, one Faith, one Holy Spirit Baptism, one God and Father of us all.

MacKenzie, if you want to get baptized, do so. No one is telling you not to.
But if that's the way to be baptised in Jesus Christ name and not by the prayer that I was thought that would save me then I must. But also in conjunction with spreading the Lord's gospel.

There are any number of things one SHOULD DO as a new believer.

For instance ... baptism (Acts 22:16), Bible study (2 Timothy 2:15), developing fellowship with a local body of believers (Hebrews 10:25), prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17), participating in the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-26), etc.

These are, generally, understood as "works' which the believer is called to observe in their christian lives. Baptism is understood in different ways by different christians, ... but we all agree that you should be baptized.

As for the initial step that leads to salvation, Paul (the Bible teacher who wrote half of the New Testament) says (in Ephesians 2:8-10) ...

"We are SAVED BY (God's) GRACE, ... THROUGH (our) FAITH, ... and even that faith is NOT OF OURSELVES. It is the GIFT of GOD, ... NOT OF WORKS, ... so that no person can boast (of providing their own salvation).

That passage goes on to say that "We are SAVED ... TO perform the WORKS that God has ordained that we perform.

Jesus requests that we "COME TO HIM" and take on HIS YOKE (Matthew 11:28-30) ...

... and Jesus says that those who "COME TO HIM", ... He will NEVER CAST OUT (John 6:37) ...

Bro
sounds like you are wanting to commit your life to Christ...

Find a church talk to a church leader about being babtized...

And welcome to a wonderful journey into a new life with Christ...

The thing is was that I was baptized long ago when I was about 16. I'm not sure if I need to be baptized again because I'm not sure if it was legitimate. I was submerged completely and I'm pretty sure it was done in the name of the father, son, and Holy Spirit. But I fell away from the faith sometime after that. I have been wanting to live my life for Christ again though so I'm not sure.

Bro confess your sin to the Lord Jesus
get His forgiveness
Get some older men at church to pray for you....
and get involved with a good church especially a men's group if you can.......

YOu have been babtized already...dont worry about it right now........
God will let you know in the next few years if you need to get rebabtized......

Focus on the most important thing...
Loving God with all your heart.....
Loving your Christian family and getting involved in a church fellowship.....

You can be re-baptized if you wish (if it will put your mind at ease) ...

The thing I heard I was that the baptism is supposed to be done in Jesus name and I honestly can't remember if it was or not.

People who make a point that it be done "in Jesus' name" normally are arguing that a baptism as done by the overwhelming majority of Christian churches--"In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost" ...

is invalid.

They are saying that only a baptism performed while naming "Jesus" specifically is to be considered a real baptism. Mostly, the churches that practice that theory are looked upon as fringe types by every other Christian church.

Bro I was raised in a church that believed you had to be babtized exactly like they said or you wudnt be saved.

I was babtized 2 times in different churches thinking that would justify me......
Long as you are babtized in Father Son Holy Spirit or Jesus name....move on

Long as it wasnt in budda or muhammeds name.......

Its like trying to go back and have the perfect wedding again after you have been married 10 years....

You are OK where you are at with your babtizm......

Move on to be involved in a church and focus on your maturity in Christ.....

First repent
Second believe
Third be baptised
Fourth receiver the Holy Spirit.
Actually, when the Lord Jesus speaks in John 3 of being born again, this does refer to the time when the sinner repents and believes and the new birth occurs by the Spirit of God; it's not a physical re-birth bu a spiritual one. In fact, Paul to the Romans says, If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.

What I meant was that I don't see in Scripture the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the believer as some subsequent, separate event after conversion through faith in the Lord Jesus.

You don't remember Paul meeting with some Christians who had received the gospel with joy but had not heard of nor received the Holy Spirit till he prayed with them?
