• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi everyone

so this is a short ocd problem,I’ve noticed that whenever I want to eat or drink something I’m always hit with “if you eat/drink that, you’ll be an apostate/commit apostasy” of course to add to this it’s usually in my room when I get these thoughts, and my parents in the past have told me not to take any snacks to there,so I’ve obeyed, and only do so with permission, but now it’s to the point where I can’t even drink water which is always allowed in my room.

So I practically don’t eat snacks at all anymore(5 days) because I’m anxious of that being true.

Treat as an intrusive thought and agree with it.
Say or think, " That is right."
Then move on ignoring the thought and have your coffee and cake etc.

Ok, So, notice the first word that you are using, if...
That's the condemnation you are bringing upon yourself(because of fear/anxiety, which is the underlying issues of OCD). But notice the fear itself, which is the understanding that if you eat that snack you are an apostate. Apostasy has absolutely nothing to do with food, but heretic beliefs about the gospel and biblical heresies. You have to work on that understanding of what apostasy is. Your eating, or not eating any food has absolutely nothing to do with apostasy. So be free from that fear and enjoy anything you want to eat. Pray about it and work on it and you will be free from it(In Jesus name I pray for your deliverance). God bless you.

But you know that is not true.
If I called you ugly, would you accept that?
Why would you even consider the other...?

This is just an OCD thought. You have to find distance from it. It's scaring you because you're scared of committing apostasy, but the thought itself doesn't logically make sense. Keep snacking! :) Remember, you don't have to listen to every thought you get! We all get crazy thoughts from time to time-- even people who don't have OCD. And I'd say the fact that you're so worried about committing apostasy likely means you truly value your relationship with God :)

You can beat this Blaise. Never forget that it's anxiety fuelling this. You're a victim of your own anxiety running wild.
