Ever lie to someone? take something that wasnt yours?Antoninus Verus said:Guilty of WHAT?
Of course.Vegeta7286 said:Ever lie to someone? take something that wasnt yours?
then you are guilty of telling a lie and taking something that isn't yours.Antoninus Verus said:Of course.
what cirumstances?...a lie is still a lie.Antoninus Verus said:Not under the circumstances which the incidents happend.
If you recall, countless lives WERE lost even though she lied.morningstar2651 said:Okay, now for my geeky explanation of how a lie can be for good depending on circumstance.
Take Princess Leia for example. If she hadn't lied to Darth Vader about the location of the Rebel Base, countless lives would have been lost.
My friend, even though your intentions were good, it was stealing and lying both of which are wrong. The "evils" of corporate America can't justify stealing the aspirin, otherwise I would be cleaning house at Wal-Mart!Antoninus Verus said:I was in class, me and a friend were passing notes because we couldnt talk but she needed to talk to me. She was having really bad problems at home and needed to talk about them. The teacher caught me and asked "Are you passing notes?" and I said no. If I had said yes, he would have taken the note and read it to the class, humiliating my friend. I started a small fire to prevent a big one.
And are you saying that EVERY LIE is bad?
And when I took something that wasnt mine, I was at the mall and they have this little corner store type thing there and my friend (Ironically the same one I got caught passing notes) was having really bad cramps. It was her monthly visitor and she was in alot of pain because of her cramps and we needed to go home. We couldnt take the bus, she was doubled over holding her stomach. So I went into the little store and tried to get some asprin. They were these little sample packets of Advil with like 2 tablets in them. The guy was selling them for 99 cents each (Which is a total ripoff to begin with). I didnt have the money so I asked him "I have 50 cents and a friend in pain who needs asprin, can I please just give you what I have and we call it even?" He replied "You no have money, you no get asprin!" I brought her in there and she repeated what I said. He still wouldnt take what I had to offer. So when he turned his back, and I grabbed one of the little packets and we left
It is true that one must know what one is doing is wrong for it to be a mortal sin. However, we are required to educate ourselves in our faith and have a properly formed conscience.GreenDragon said:I was talking with my dad and aunt today about what is sin. They said that sin is when you do something you know is wrong. That means that sins vary from person to person, one person might think X is wrong and not do it, but another person doesn't think X is wrong and does it. It wouldn't be a sin for the second person because they are not doing anything they think is wrong.
Is this the general conclusion on how sin works?
Well then it seems like the less you know the better. Required? By who?Monica02 said:It is true that one must know what one is doing is wrong for it to be a mortal sin. However, we are required to educate ourselves in our faith and have a properly formed conscience.
I disagree. We don't know right and wrong from education. We are born with this knowledge. We try to rationalize our wrongs and explain that they were okay in the circumstances, or that it is a cultural thing, but that does not change the fact that wrong is wrong and right is right and this is not open to human interpretation.Monica02 said:It is true that one must know what one is doing is wrong for it to be a mortal sin. I must heartily disagree. When we are born, we dont know that up is up or down is down. Thats why a baby will "mis-behave" because it doesnt know it's actions are "wrong." Right and wrong are not actual components of this world, right and wrong are evalutions of your actions by the others around you. You are taught what good and bad is. For instance, a child who is brought up in a home where he is not reprimanded for making loud noises will teach him that its ok to make loud sounds. A child in a house where he is reprimanded for making loud noises will learn that making those noises is bad and not do it.sinner/SAVED said:I disagree. We don't know right and wrong from education. And I must heartily disagree. A child who has had no education whatsoever about the concept of murder still knows that he has done wrong when he kills his hamster. That is why he hides it and when confronted automatically says that he didn't do it. The knowledge of right and wrong is in us. It is what makes us different from the animals.Antoninus Verus said:I must heartily disagree. When we are born, we dont know that up is up or down is down. "The forst two rods they teach you when your a kid is "good" and "bad". They dont fully explain them at the time, but it becomes apparent that when you do something that meets the approval of all those around you, your doing "good". "Bad" means something that those around you find disagreeable. For exactly the same deed, the same human being can recieve a shiny new medal, or face a firing squad." -Jim Unger
Basically the Bible provides guidelines on what is Sin or not. But as said these are just guidelines not ABSOLUTISMS , sin is basically doing wrong against your fellow man.End of story.GreenDragon said:I was talking with my dad and aunt today about what is sin.
