  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Seriously- get rid of your cable and spend the time not watching TV wooing yor wife- play cards with her or read poetry to her or her favorite novels or do crosswords together with her- or whatever it is she really likes-- and within a week or two- there'll be no grumbling what so ever. TV is a very isolating activity- even if people are watching together.

ALmost everyone that I have ever known who has either gotten rid of their cable or their TV altogether- hasn't missed it one little bit after the first week or two.

Maybe you could have a trial for a month and ask your wife at the end of the month whether she wants the cable back or not-- and of course honoring her request- but doing all you can to, let's say, influence her decision!!

If you get a dish www.dishnetwork.com you can block out any channel you want, with a password protection feature. You can do it "on-the-fly", and the guy who installs it will walk you through the process - its rather simple.
If you have cable, they can filter out certain channels, however unless you have a box on your TV, they will have to send out a truck and install a filter on the physical wire itself, at your cable box.

I recommend getting the 25/month dish because its all all-digital, featureful, and has EWTN :)
Thanks, Jason. This will be my second option. Since we already have cable, I'm going to first try getting some sort of a block on that.

Okay, I'm finally fed up with TV. I want to get some kind of filter to block out channels like MTV. I'm sick of it polluting the minds/souls of my teenage daughters with its contracepting, free-sex mentality. What kind of filters are available and how do I go about getting one?
Do you have digital way up there in the north? My digital box has channel blocks but a teen is smart enough to figure out how to un block them and I only have the ditgal service on my main TV. Also most TV’s now can block channels. All you do is remove the channel and lose the remote. They can't be changed back with out the remote.

I know what you mean about TV now, it’s crazy. Cartoon Network is the worse with adult swim that come on at 9 PM. What is on that network after 9 PM is a shame, a real shame and don't get me started with South Park. I just think it is so sad that I can't let my teen age sons wach TV with out checking to see what on.

Did you know that there used to be a time when MTV would play music?
“Her two kids in high school, tell her she is un cool, cause she's still preoccupied, with 1985.”

Seriously though, I remember the first day MTV aired. It’s sad because it wasn’t nothing like what it is now.

It's older. Any other suggestions? Can't I buy a filter or something?
Seriously, I don't know of any filter to put on the TV. TV's now are real cheap because of the new plasma and flat screens. You would probably do better buying a new TV for what ever room you need to block the channels then trying to go with a satellite or buying some kind of filter.

Hi Michelle.

Thanks for the suggestions. I realize there's no filters for the TV's themselves. I was thinking more along the lines of for the cable system itself. First I'll call the cable company tomorrow, and find out if anything is available directly from them. If not, I'll try some electronic stores. If nothng's available there, I may have to switch to Direct TV (satellite). But I hate to do that, since my Internet service is through my cable company and we get a discount because we use them for both TV and Internet services. But if it costs me more, so be it, I guess.
