A little odd, no?

The lease will be up soon at my apartment, and I'll need to move out. But the oddest thing is ... folks at my church have been asking me if I'll be moving back in with my parents, who are also in the area.

Honestly, I lived with my family for a number of years while I got started in a new career and made sure my finances were in order. But it's been a few years since then.

So I find the question of whether I would move back in with my parents a little bizarre. I'm trying not to take it personally (but clearly I am... :o! ), and the next person who asks me that, I'm tempted to look them square in the eye and ask: "Why on earth would I do that?"

Unfortunately not everybody see that also single persons need their privacy and their own home. May God bless you with a new apartment/house where you may feel at home.

Thank you, NorwayUnn. That's it exactly. Just because I am single doesn't mean I am a child. I mean, when a couple loses their lease, no one asks them if they're moving in with their parents.

John, I appreciate your being a voice of reason. :) My parents *are* older. Perhaps people do think I could live with them and help them out; that's a good point. Although ... I haven't talked with anyone about my parents, so at the same time I guess I wonder what would cause them to think that. Oh well! :)

Even if they know nothing about your parents, most anyone who is 40 has parents 60 to 80. So it's a fair assumption that they might be beginning to run into some aging issues.

Is there any chance that they are thinking that your parents are aging and could use your help?

I like your view on this situation. It's a very good way to look at it. A lot of people just don't understand.

Umm..... yes they did. And it was even more embarrassing than your situation. The fact that people think that we are not capable of looking after our own children and we need help and support from their grandparents. That's about as low as it gets.....
