  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There continues to be problems with posters using labels and unpleasant nicknames for public figures and groups. As this has become an issue around the site, we are creating this list and attaching a link to the flaming rule. It is not meant to be all-inclusive and will be edited as needed.

Do not use the following terms:

Do not call either political party in the US or members thereof Fascist, or Socialist*, or Marxist or Communist. Do not call the leaders Hitler.
Do not use wing nut, racist bigot, hatemonger, hater (as in Trump-hater or Biden hater), NORK, Sodomite, snowflake, RINO, DINO Cuckservative, Cuck.

Teahadist, Teabagger, Trumpkin, Trumpet, repugnican, demonrat, Demoncrat, Obamabot, Obamatron, commie, feminazi, tree hugger, leftist in a negative way, SJW, Trump-negger

Fauxahautas for Warren, Pocahantas for Warren, Shifty Schiff, Crooked Hillary, King Trump, Dear Leader, Donnie, Barry, "Hills", Creepy Joe, Orange Mussolini, Orange Man and other derogatory nicknames for politicians.

Generalized terms indicating derangement - TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) or BDS (Biden Derangement Syndrome). It will depend on who is president. This includes the use of "Orange Man bad".

Heretic when directed at other Christians

Phrases that are goading or profane:
Okay boomer
Let's go Brandon

We are going to allow the term "Trumper" and Trumpster since we are allowing the term "Never-Trumpers". It seems fair.
"Birther" and "Obamacare" are names used by the majority of the media and are okay.

Terms such as "pro-death" or "anti-poor" would be violations if directed toward a member personally, but not if directed toward a piece of legislation.

Another way to add civility to the conversation here is proper names. The names of the two main political parties are the Republican party (RNC) whose members are Republicans, and the Democratic Party (DNC) whose members are Democrats. It is not the "Democrat" party. The use of Democrat party was started as a pejorative term and was meant to be derogatory. (see this) We realize many do not know that, and don't mean it in a derogatory way, so we have sent pms to members explaining. We would prefer not to make it part of the Statement of Purpose.
So remember that there is the Republican Party and Democratic Party made up of Republican politicians and Democratic politicians who individually are Republicans and Democrats.

*If a member or public figure ID's themselves as socialists, it is okay to label them as such. Provide support.

If you intend a term to mean an insult, it is likely a violation.
