A Holy man and the lions

We read an epistle the other day about Bishop Ignatius of the 1st century AD. According to historical Christian tradition, (these include writings that the early Bishops did not include in the Bible), Bishop Ignatius, met Jesus when Ignatius was a child. Bishop Ignatius became the first Bishop of Antioch, which was one of the Christian communities that the Apostle Paul wrote to--the Antiochians. A ruler at that time tried to get Bishop Ignatius to acknowledge their pagan idols but Bishop Ignatius said that he would never bow to the gods of the demons. So the rulers sent him to Rome where he was taken captive and taken to the Roman Collosium and fed to the lions. He told his Christian friends in Rome not to interfere with the execution because he longed to be with Jesus in heaven. The Roman guards asked why he constantly repeated the name of Jesus on his lips-- He said that this reflected Christ dwelling within his heart. He said that Paul and Peter were great Apostles, but that he was a lowly servant...The people loved him very much...Such was the end of a Holy man of God who loved the Lord and died for Him in Rome...
