In Post #16, Job8 offered this thought:
The sentiment is worthy, but the reality is often different.
At least stmitche74 was able to leave of his own free will.
In most of the churches I have attended over the years, things were not that simple. It was a case of speak out and be chucked out.
Most elders in that type of church are there for the power and prestige. They have no real interest in the true humble Christian walk, and are interested in change only in as much as it offers them personal advantage. Rocking the boat is definitely a no-no.
The problem is that the majority of attendees in such congregations are either unaware of what is really going on, or choose to turn a blind eye to it for their own self-preservation. They snuggle into their secure socio-religious environments to maximise their own emotional comfort.
I mean, that's what most people go to church for, isn't it?
It's not so they'll feel uncomfortable.
Before you left, did you rebuke that church? If not, perhaps you should send a letter to their elders, and tell them precisely why you left and why they need to repent. Too many times, Christians are letting church leaders get away with unacceptable things because they do not speak up and speak out.
The sentiment is worthy, but the reality is often different.
