  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does the nonmaterial mind interact with the material brain?

How does the mental world interact with the physical world?

Sir John Eccless , Nobel Prize winner, believed that the supplementary motor area of the brain is where the nonmaterial mind interacted with the material brain.

What's your opinion(s) on this matter?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this "nonmaterial mind" kind of like a really advanced electric circuit, and our mind runs on electricity?

Through the brain I suppose...

The non-material mind is an emergent property of the physical brain. Thoughts, emotions, ideas, experiences - all can be changed and invoked by the right chemical or electrical stimuli.

Consequently, there is no difficulty in the mental world involving itself with the physical - both physical and mental activity derive from the same place.

By "nonmaterial mind" do you mean the soul?

This post reminded me of an interview I once read where Richard Dawkins talks about the brain being a biological computer (true) and thoughts and ideas are essentially software. He considers religion to be the equivelant to a mental virus that infiltrates the mind. Below is a link to the interview transcript.
