No, these books are facts like the law of thermodynamics and gravity. They present the facts like in a court of law - one can accept or reject. This is like reading a math book. Its up to you with what you do with this information. These arn't opinions anymore than the fact that the sun rises in the morning. It rises no matter what you or I think.

I'm a christian spiritually and second for intellectual reasons. I'm giving you the "intellectual reason part". Also,www.reasons.org - is a belief and science website. A guy with a PhD in Chemistry created it I believe.

Biblical Evidence (Scratching the Surface Only)

Internal Evidences
Prophesies that are confirmed within Bible

- Life of Christ
The Tribe of Judah, Gen 49:10 - Luke 3:23-28
(Genesis was written 4004 BC to 1689 BC)
(Luke's time period is 60-70 AD)

Royal Line of David, Jer 23:5 -Matt 1:1
(Jeremiah 760 to 698 BC)/(Matthew 60-70 AD)

Born of a Virgin, Isaiah 7:14/Matt 1:18-23
(Isaiah 760 to 698 BC)/(60-70 AD)

**I can list at least 20 more of these.
-Rise of Empires
In the book of Daniel, Chapter 2 - four kingdoms are described in the interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greek - Daniel 8:21, 10:20) and a fourth great kingdom to follow - part iron and clay - which is the Roman Empire - during this empire Christ came and the church was established - Daniel 2:44.

-Historical Accuracy
The Bible is loaded with historical statements concerning events hundreds of years ago, yet has not been proven incorrect on any.
(Bible compared to other ancient documents):
New Testament - starts at 25 years - between original and first surviving copies
Homer - starts at 500 years
Demosthenes - at 1400 years
Plato - at 1200 years
Caesar - at 1000 years

Number of Manuscript Copies
New Testament - 5,686
Homer - 643
Demosthenes - 200
Plato - 7
Caesar - 10

Consistency
Written by at least 40 men over a period of time exceeding 1400 years, and has no internal inconsistencies.

Claim of Inspiration
It claims to be spoken by God, 2 Tim 3:16-17). No other religious book makes such claims.

External Evidences
(Prophesies Outside the Bible)
These cities were prophesied to be destroyed and never be built again.
Nineveh - Nahum 1:10, 3:7,15, Zephaniah 2:13-14
Babylon - Isaiah 13:1-22)
Tyre (Ezekiel 26:1-28)

Bible before Science
He hangs the earth on nothing - Job 26:7
(Job was written at least 1000 years ago - some scholars think it could be even 3000 years ago)
Note: Man only knew this for 350 years
Earth is a sphere, Isaiah 40:22
Air has weight, Job 28:25
Gravity - Job 26:7, Job 38:31-33
Winds blow in cyclones, Eccl 1:6

Documents that Prove Bible is True
Gilgamesh Epic, The Sumerian King List, Mari Tablets, Babylonian Chronicles

Archealogoical Finds
Excavations of Ur, Location of Zoar, Ziggurats and the foundation of Tower of Babel

Earth is a sphere, Isaiah 40:22
He hangs the earth on nothing - Job 26:7
(Job was written at least 1000 years ago - some scholars think it could be even 3000 years ago) Note: Man only knew this for 350 years

Are..are you serious? -sigh- We have known this before we started reading the bible.. That man only knew the world was round about 350 years ago and that it rested on something was a myth created by Washington Irving. You see good ole Washington was in abit of a pickle, he had written a series of great books and stories and needed something to back them up with, what could he possibly write that could be as great as his other books? So he wrote the Life and Adventures of Christopher Columbus in which he was loose with historical facts, ONE being that Columbus had to plead and bargain with the kings and queens of Europe that the world was round and he would not fall off the edge of the world. However if he would have REALLY dropped this line to Queen Isabelle, she would have smacked him in the face and said, "Yeah we know it is 1486 the same year they invented the GLOBE!". The truth is, humans have known the world is round..without the bible for thousands of years. Yajnavalkya reconized the earth was a sphere in the 8th Century BC.

Pythagoras, a Greek reasoned the Earth was round by 570 BC

Plato, another famous Greek philosopher by this time was already teaching his students the world was round.

And one more bit of detail, by 240BC, Eratosthenes had already measured, using math, the circumference of the world.

Now becuase of these observations, astonomy was already going strong by about 800BC with the assumption the world filled a void.

Air has weight, Job 28:25

First of all. Air has NO weight, air is nothing but high pressure moving into low pressure, it technically does exist. If you mean the atoms and gases that make up our air then yes they DO weight, but this is not what this passage is saying, it clearly says, atleast in bible bible.

When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters. All they are saying is how strong the wind blows, nothing science in here.

Gravity - Job 26:7, Job 38:31-33
He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.

Once again where is the science in that? ANY man could deduce the Earth was not suspended on anything, especially when they believed God was holding it up and the concept of space, and astonomy was already thriving by 900BC or so because of our knowledge of the spherical shape of the earth and heavenly bodies.

31Can you bind the beautiful Pleiades? Can you loose the cords of Orion? 32 Can you bring forth the constellations in their seasons or lead out the Bear with its cubs?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you set up God's dominion over theearth?

Still not seeing ANY science here.

The thing is, faith and science don't mix too well!
Cos science is all about evidence - and if you have evidence, you don't need faith.

I have nothing against science (I am a science teacher!), but science teaches us how the world works.
Faith is about why.

And - whilst you cannot evidentially prove God , living by the hypothesis that he exists and loves me, I have never once been able to disprove his love!
Which is the best you can ever say of any hypothesis!

Science cannot prove anything - it can only disprove fallacies.

Faith is nice but I prefer finding what is meaningful in my life for myself using logic, philosophy and my feelings.

Science teacher eh? Nice.

You are happy to go by your feelings.
So - if I say that my faith makes me feel good, is that sufficient?
Surely there has to be more to it than that?

And what happens when your feelings contradict your logic?

Sorry - am wildly off topic here, but am trying to understand where you are coming from...
Ignore me if you wish!

To answer that question I MAY have to sprinkle a dash of Satanism on it if you are okay with that.

(To the Moderators) Not trying to convert or debate or anything, just answer Criada.

3. Firmament

Is the firmament canon? A giant sphere over the Earth to separate the waters above us from us? Since this has already been disproved via the 50 years or so of space exploration. Can you explain to me how this is so or can you give me a separate definition for the firmament using the bible as your source?

How do you think it rained for 40 days straight during the time of Noah?? God brought that sphere of water down to the earth, in addition to breaking open the fountains of the deep.
