 Hi, and welcome to my world

With respect to ScottishJohn, I felt he deserved my fullest support in another thread. So thanks SJ for bringing it to our attention.

I do not intend on along and lengthy discourse with this post, so suffice to say that I shall not be returning to view replies.
Please take my suggestions with whatever pinch of salt you prefer, and digest accordingly.

Fundamentally, mankind has not been evolving for long enough to consume the food that we are presently being forced to consume.
In evolutionary terms, it is not too long ago that we were hunter-gatherers, and therefore eat a diet completely different to the ones we do today, and in many different ways.
The inevitable result of this, is a massive increase in serious medical conditions, and everything else down to those kind of minor ailments we could do without, but consider them to be not to serious to worry about.

So, what kind of changes do we need to consider?

Well, quite radical ones actually, but it is more to do with a psychology than anything else.
Basically, there are three conditions when it comes to food:
1 - Does it look any good?
2 - Does it taste good?
3 - Is it actually going to be doing me any good?

Well, I would suggest, that for most people, their choices occur in exactly that order, when in fact, No.3 shoud be your first consideration. This will remove from your diet inordinate amounts of rubbish, and the subsequent damage being inflicted upon your insides.

Next, I would like you to consider your hereditry. Are you caucasion? Do your ancestors come from Cornwall? Did your great grandfather come from Barbados?
Many possible avenues of origins need to be considered, because your ancestors as they evoloved, did so on a diet that may or may not be the same as yours. If it's different, then you are slowly poisoning yourself.

So, now that I have got you thinking, let us consider the supermarkey killers.
Uh?
Well, not supermarkets actually, but the style of selling that they promulgate.
Succinctly, by way opf example, we are now able to go to supermarkets and purchase and consume apples all year round.
This is NOT how our ancestors eat apples, for they picked them off the tree when in season, eating them as they fruited and stored them over the winter mounts. Resultantly, they never eat apples from April - August approx.
Make sense?
You have to consider the fact that your bodies are no longer evolving within their natural environments, but they did so in the past, so you should be consuming a diet that is applicable to your origins.
This is why eating fruit every day will NOT keep the doctor away, but it will help massively if you eat them when in season and for a short while afterwards.
That is not to say that eating foods that are not akin to your origins will do your harm. Of course they will not, but they will if you eat too many of them.
You see, those rather ignorant terms of "a little bit of everything does you good", and "A apple a day keeps the doctor away", etc, etc, are just plain rubbish.
Diet is just not a simple as that, and in most cases, far from that.

So, now that we are thinking about the general aspects of our diet, let us consider some specifics to close, but in so doing, remember one very important factor:

Men are different to women. Each evolved doing different tasks in different locations, and therefore consumed food in different ways.

1 – What foods can be eaten raw, eat raw – particularly men.

2 – Never, ever, eat HOT food.

3 – Men should only ever sit down to eat food during the evenings. At all other times, eat standing up. Women are far better at eating food in any position, particularly sitting when talking. If men sit, talk and eat, they get wind!!!

4 – Only consume in season foods and for 3 months following.

5 – Never add salt to your food.

6 – Eat a clove of garlic every day.

7 – Eat tomatoes every day.

8 – Providing you exercise every day, eggs will do you a power of good, not only for the amino acids that they contain, but also for the sulphur to aid skin conditions, and they help to lower cholesterol. Eggs were eaten every day by our ancestors with no ill effects, because they exercised.

9 – Food generally, should be in the ratio of:
Protein = 1
Carbohydrate = 2 or 3, depending upon your energy needs, and
Vegetables = 4

10 – Fast food is a fast death.

11 – Most of you gardeners will know that acid loving plants get burnt foliage in alkaline conditions. The same goes for your food.
Many stomach/bowel problems are created by the over consumption of alkaline or acidic foods. Restoring the balance to slightly higher than average to alkaline, will keep you healthier.
For example, if you really have bad acid belly, then eat a LEMON. Now of course, this sounds suicidal, but in fact, exceptionally alkaline foods create similar symptoms to highly acidic foods, because they are both extremes. LEMONS are in fact, probably the most alkaline food that you can eat – they are not acidic. Be warned though, your upset stomach could be the result of over acidity or over alkalinity – you need to know which in order to rectify.

Foods create most problems, and foods an alleviate them.

12- For English people generally, oranges are not a good source of Vitamin C. Far better to be considering natural British fruits, like raspberries etc.

13- Choose your meats in this order – Chicken, Turkey, Lamb, Beef.
14- Chose your fish in this order – Sardines, Salmon, Cod, Tuna, remainder.
15– Dairy = Eggs, Cottage cheese, Milk, Yoghurt
16– Fruit – Raspberries, Blackberries, Plums, Apples, Greengages, cherries, damsons, strawberries, red currants, etc. if you are of northern European descent.
17– Vegetables are endless – eat loads, but never over cook them.
18– Nuts/seeds – Pumpkin, brazil, raisins, currants, dates, figs, sunflower.
19– Herbs and spices like fennel, oregano, basil, tarragon and mustard.
20– Dark chocolate.
21– Jelly.
22– Any oat ceral, especially porridge, every day if you can and not always for breakfast.

Anti cancer foods – insurance is the best policy, especially as you’ve probably had an unsuitable diet for most of your life so far:
Onions, spinach, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, radish, carrot, green beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, pumpkin, peaches, strawberries, salmon, sardines, tuna, chicken, most fish, and any whole grain foods.

Given that most will suffer from over acidity, here are some alkaline foods to help you feel better:
Lemon, Dates, Figs, Parsley, seaweeds, watercress, asparagus, pears and raisins.

If you’ve eaten a little too much – eat MORE – but only Pineapple. It’s a magic wand for over indulgence.

TOP FOODS in order of choice, given the above:

Vegetables – spinach, bok choy, broccoli, watercress, red/green pappers, tomatos, cauliflower, cabbage and carrots. Mushrooms are good, but watch out if you have a thrush problem. Mushrooms are a fungi, and so is Candida albicans (thrush).

Fruits – guava – papaya – strawberries – blackcurrants- mango – kiwi fruit – mandarin oranges – orange – melon.

Grains – All Bran Cereal .

Pulses/Nuts/Seeds – Bean sprouts, peas, baked beans

Protein – Eggs, Turkey, Cod, Sardines,

Singularities – Alfalfa, kelp, wheat germ, brewers yeast, honey.

Oh, and don't forget, no or low sugar, in absolutely everything, except honey.

There you go. That’s it. Simple eh?

Thanks! I think this is an interesting topic, and I'm particularly interested in some of your comments, although I don't agree with all of them.

Shame, personally I think there is more mileage in this conversation than some of your other ones.

I disagree with this. No one is forcing us to consume anything.

It is only 100 years since we were dying of different dietary diseases more connected with a lack of food. In that time we have also almost doubled our life expectancy, giving us more opportunity to experience different diseases. I'm not convinced we need to revert to a hunter gatherer existence.

I agree with this somewhat, although I would say that all three are important, and if you know what to look for in the first two, (which is knowledge we have forgotten to a certain extent) then the third will follow on automatically. For instance. Carrots in our farm nets we get at home taste of carrot. Carrots from the supermarket are straight, orange, cleaned to within an inch of their lives, and taste of nothing in particular.

This is interesting, do you have any sources on this?

I would say that a little bit of everything is unlikely to do you any harm - overconsumption of anything is the problem. There wasn't opportunity in the past. There is now.

These rules are too proscriptive. They also contradict some of what you have already said. Hunter gatherers cooked meat for instance. Tomatoes were not a universally available food. Some salt can be added to food. There is still a debate going on about the dangers of lack of dangers of eating lots of eggs. Anecdotally, my grandfather had two for breakfast every day, and died of a massive heart attack at 65.

Lemons are acidic. Lemon juice is about 5% Citric acid. Lemons have a ph of 2-3. They are slightly less acidic than Gastric acid, but an acid nevertheless. There are lots of foods more alkaline than Lemons. Pretty much all foods in fact. Vinegar is less acidic than Lemon. Acid rain is less acidic than lemon!

Do you have any proof of that? Why doesn't that apply to tomatoes?

Turkey and chicken are both imported to the UK. How do you square that? I'd control my intake of red meat and meat in general, but I'm not sure I would rank them.

This seems a bit wierd. What about Mackerel and Herring? Why ranked like this?

Not sure about these. Lemons are definately acidic. Most food is.
