The other day I saw a beautiful gold cross and chain for sale in the Avon catalogue. Can I wear these if I'm not Catholic? For some reason I thought only Catholic people wore crosses or maybe I'm thinking of a crucifix?? Thanks!!

Stereotypically Catholics wear the crucifixes, and Protestants the crosses. Not sure what Orthodox wear, I suspect neither 
Wear either if you want to, in my opinion. Just be aware that you may need to take it off if you're in soldier's uniform - I'm fairly sure it's 'no jewellery'!

Yeah, I think so too. I normally only wear my wedding rings but the cross was so pretty I thought it would be nice for special occasions.

I was given a small plain wooden cross on a cord by my little prayer group when I was noviced (and enrolled the same weekend). It came with a blessing from the minister, and another Francsican, and one of the local bishops sent his blessing as well that day. I've worn it every day since, unless I'm in uniform and then I usually forget to take it off and so it's under my blouse! When I put it on I say the words that Jewish men (and sometimes women) say when they wrap themselves in the tallit, the prayer shawl: 'I will betrothe you to me forever; I will betrothe you to me in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betrothe you to me in faithfulness and you shall know the Lord.' Hosea 2.20
I guess it will fall apart eventually, but I will miss it when it finally goes! I am not sure where I will get another. :0) I will replace it with a simple Tau cross I expect, which is the Franciscan traditional cross.
