  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pretty good pictures. The low angle on the cat in the seond picture is nice. Something to think about for next time: Be more aware of what is going on in the background. Both cat pictures suffer from distracting background elements. The third picture would be much better without the pole cutting through it. The second picture's background could have been "context," but it just seems jumbled. The first picture looks "soft" to me. Might be the slow shutter speed, so a tripod might help. Otherwise it might just be my computer.

thanks for the imput. just to respond to what you said. the cat was sleeping...if i could have chose a spot to take the picture i would have but the cat would probably not want to move for me to take a pic...its just a lucky snapshot of the cat. the panoramic picture was taken withough a tripod and the shutter speed was kinda slow. and the lightpoll...im working on editing that out...

anyway here are a few from this weekend

the first one there is part of an overhang in the upper left corner...sadly. and the second i wish i could have a longer shutter speed...im limited to 15 seconds with my little A70.

It always helps to check background before just snapping a picture. The cat on the floor background could be eliminated with a piece of white posterboard (every photographer should have one of those handy for fill light) placed behind the cat to hide the jumbled background. By all means take the grab shot, but if the cat is still sleeping, think of a way to improve it. The cat with the pole looks like it could have been cured by just moving the subject a little one direction or the other. That would save a lot of photoshop time.

I like the two new pictures as well. The one on the left is especially intriguing. Notice how the rough texture in the orange foreground contrasts so well with the smooth texture of the greenish building. The night light also adds mystery to the unusual door of the building. (The door looks open, yet, there is another closed door behind it!)

With all that said, I agree there might be some ways to improve the picture. The over hang is distracting, but a thought might be given to using it to frame the subject (the building with the bright light). Move to the left, and place the building under the overhang, and over the concrete pad. Another thought would be to get closer to the subject, making it larger in the frame, and getting rid of the overhang as well as the distracting partial building to the right. If you can, keep some of that nice orange foreground.

Another thing to always consider is a crop. I took the liberty of cropping your picture so that the essential elements (that I like) are left. I think this can make it a stronger picture. You could call it "[insert your employer here]'s Open Door Policy"
