• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christians believe that the serpent was Satan. If that part could be symbolic, why not the rest? Unless, of course, Satan literally took the form of a snake.

Then you have to take the whole bible has as symbolic. The story of cain and abel. The story of Abraham. The story of Jesus. You cant just pick and choose what is symbolic.

Note that in the ancient world the sun was not necessarily thought to be the source of all light - after all the sky is bright even when the sun is hidden.

Doesnt this show then that is is made my man, not god. That is not from god. That they described only what they knew not the revelation from god.

They doubtless noticed a general tendency for it to get dark when the sun slipped below the horizon.

Is that because the sun goes down when it gets dark or because it gets dark when the sun goes down?

I suppose having to squint when they look at the sun might have given them some clue. Although the new atheists tend to credit them with an IQ of 1, they were not completely stupid.

Sun is bright does not imply all light comes from the sun.

It shows that they are describing the theologic message they have about God (whether that's inspired or not) within the scientific framework of their time.

Do you think they were trying to gain their philosophy degrees by looking at something from every possible angle, or would they have drawn the obvious conclusion a five year old might draw from it getting dark when the sun went down.

That the sun doesn't like the dark?
