  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I had an enjoyable (but midge filled) camping trip over the past few days and took quite a lot of photos of the surrounding countryside. Any hints/tips on how to improve these photos would be appreciated, whether through actual composition or through manipulation with photo editing software.

Thanks,

Great pics StormeTorque!

Your country is really beautiful. Some day I hope to visit as I travel abroad.

As far as the content of you pictures I think you are doing really great! One thing you might look for is different perspectives of the shots. Maybe like in the first one get down lower to the ground/water and shoot up through the boat to the hill/rainbow.

As for post processing I just took the first one and messed it around a little. The first thing I noticed when I looked at it was the water. While I'm sure it looks really nice in person the color it gives off leaves it looking flat even with the ripples. So I just used a saturation sponge in Photoshop 7 and made it a little blue'er. I also lightened the sail boats sail slightly to brighten the boat up a little. And thats about it. That is a really hard shot to meter. My first instinct was to lighten the whole image but doing so would totally wash out the rainbow. darkening he image makes it look grungy so I left the brightness the same even though I wish it could be brightened as a whole along with bringing the colors of the rainbow out more.

Overall they are great! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the tips - the edited image does show a good deal of improvement in terms of enhancing the brightness of the water and boat. I do find a lot of my shots hard to meter - if the skies are bright I tend to try and use a higher shutter speed, but this makes the foreground horribly dark. If I used a lower speed however, the background looks washed out. Would it be easier to darken the foreground or lighten the sky in photoshop?

A couple more I was going to attach earlier - but now I've cleared out some earlier attachments so I could post them.
