To All,

Some people think that they'll get through a food crisis by hunting and/or fishing. But it's a little known history that deer were nearly hunted to extinction during the Great Depression. And do you really want to become "prey" for other "hunters"?

And so I would propose that the Mormon food infrastructure is a good starting place, which might include the square 4-gallon food bucket which can be shelved alternating up/down/up/down for five-deep on a four-foot-deep shelf, and equally five-wide on a four-foot-wide shelf. Augason Farms sells through Wally World cheaper than on their own website, and Wally World offers FREE SHIPPING for purchases over $35.

Your can order the 4-gal size for Flour, Pinto Beans, Sugar, Potato Slices, Corn Meal, Milk, Potato Shreds, Salt, Egg Powder, Pancake Mix, Black Beans, Rolled Oats, Dried Fruits, Dried Vegetables, and a wide variety of various "prepared meals". And of course, if you want to expand your food selection you can buy the same items and much more in the #8 cans.

It doesn't seem to get much better buying food you won't need for at least a couple of years, which has a long shelf life. -- And won't you feel better keeping your head down and eating a bowl of "porridge"?

We can get through this,
DaDad

I posted before somewhere here the Mormon link to the list of food supply they go by, and the rotation schedule form that they use to make sure they know just what they have, how much, how much to buy and when to use it up etc. A really great tool for those needing long term, ongoing storage (and not just for food but sundries as well.)

PS the gluten in porridge is unhealthy for me :(

I barely have the funds to get by now on what I get from my little job and Social Security. Yes, I could buy some oatmeal. However, I really cannot afford all that shelving and containers of dried food, etc. I can afford a few cans of oatmeal, sure. In fact, I have that already. I have water filters for a year's time or longer stored up. I bought a sewing by hand kit and I plan to buy some hand operated kitchen appliances like a meat grinder and a veggie slicer. Both are priced reasonably and look to be sturdy. I think we need to not only think of the food, but how we will be preparing it too! If there are a bunch of starving people around and you are cooking something on a wood stove out in the open (or a grill) they will smell it and want some! Better to eat out of a can that has not even been heated as far as I can see! The less someone knows, unless you want to share with them, the better off you are.

That's the dichotomy. We want to help others "prepare" for when we can no longer "buy or sell", and that simple expression of "concern" translates into: LOOK WHAT I'M DOING.

I've considered the "Frank" family, where the Mr. Frank's Christian business partner worked with him to prepare a haven in the third story attic of their business, and when the time came Mr. Frank even allowed other Jews to seek refuge with him and his family. And after Germany had been defeated, Mr. Frank was the only one of his enclave to survive that Holocaust.

And I work so that ALL my family might survive to see the day that Jesus returns to rule and reign.

I use Sterno in my van... I have both a double and a single (was my mom's). There is no offgassing from sterno, and if you keep the lids on tight, they do not evaporate over years! They heat things up fast (especially if you have thin aluminum pan or little pot).

I don't use my propane stove/oven inside the van but outside on a bench. If I only have some wood and rocks and am in the desert i.e. I make a campfire... which I know you can't do Song.

Since we're discussing porridge... gluten is not good for anyone actually. Gluten in the stomach/gut causes the body (digestive system) to shut down and be unable to process nutrients out of the food. That is the exact opposite we want in a good society, but even more important if the 'only' reason we are consuming food is for sustenance and nutrition. Grains have gluten, including "gluten free oatmeal" ..they can label oatmeal that way because of semantics (and a rotten FDA).... the element in oatmeal that acts JUST as bad a gluten, is a 'gluten' is call GLIADA.

Add more healthy fats: red meat (not fully cooked), real butter, eggs (soft /runny yolks)... healthy fats give good nutrition and give you that full feeling. You need less of good nutritious foods which saves you money in the short and long run...whereas fake garbage foods have ingredients that keep you feeling hungry (so you buy more to eat.)

Water filter, canned food (rotate once a year) and buy freeze dried food when it is on sale. Also lots of packaged food (rice-a-roni, type stuff) has a very long shelf life. I pack it all in a big rubber made container.

To All,
Just remember, we will probably be without the ability to "buy or sell" for maybe 6 months. As such, we each need to do what we can to prepare as best possible for that MINIMUM duration, and probably a YEAR until the societal infrastructure is adequately restored.

That takes a lot of planning and preparation, but it WILL pay off!

With Best Regards,
DaDad

IDK about length of planning. If you are not a pretribulational rapture person then you have to figure it our according to your own doctrine: Here's my input for that type of planning:

Tribulation is 7 years.
But things are getting tougher day by day in many areas already... you have to add on at least another year or three?

My guess would be to plan for 10 years max. Adjust downward according to your beliefs.

It only takes a different POTUS imo, and I don't trust Pence 'at all'. So it wouldn't even take a party election change...when the rapture occurs (as I believe, and Trump is taken up) then the trials begin, whether one believes the actual tribulation time begins then or not, right?

Your adjustments will hinge upon how long before the crack down begins...and becomes serious. I think it would be farther along without God intervening already... I mean, we have "Real ID" driver licenses and passports, and the TSA is tracking EVERYONE who uses public transportation, and those of us who use toll highways. IF you plan to really go off the grid/under cover you need to do that NOW and maybe it will take them too long to find you after rounding up everyone else, but I would think that you have to have your BOB and location ready 'now'.

IDK for example, how long it takes oats to grow, and where it grows and if you can find heirloom seeds for it now. Good question.

... Tribulation is 7 years.

I believe Rev. 13:5 says 42 months! -- The "seven year" Tribulation comes from a mis-interpretation of Daniel 9 Seventy "weeks" which are NOT "weeks". This prophecy has NOTHING to do with the Tribulation, except that the destroyer "shall come" after the seventy "weeks". -- About some 20 or so YEARS after the fulfillment of the Daniel 9 seventy "weeks". -- (Daniel 9:2 says "years", which carries the greater propensity for the interpretation.)

... I would think that you have to have your BOB and location ready 'now'.

I hope your Bug Out Bag weighs about 2,000 lbs, and includes Food, Medicine, Hygiene, Clothes, Bedding, Shelter, Fuel, and should preferably include some acreage and self defense. All these are not needed for another two years, plus or minus a season, but accumulating this list may take more than TWO YEARS.

Thanks,
DaDad

Ummmmmm, that's an awfully nice 9,500 lbs, but whatever you place inside probably won't hold you for 6 to 12 months. Perhaps a Yugo and a couple of acres with a stocked small "cabin" would have been an alternative.

If it's food you're concerned about, I dehydrate remember? :D Plus you can't move a cabin unless it's on wheels :) I have filters for water, even one for the hose...and carry 3 week's of water while I'm living at a house still... and I can still stock up on bottled.. plenty of room...

all I might need is a small solar panel or two ...
and more matches ;)

This will do for now, though I don't plan on always travelling..but who knows?
