And others seemed to know about it as well, some of the Jews, like Herod... Don't know exactly where they got it from or how they knew about it exactly though...?
But it wasn't "just the Bible" or the Jewish/Hebrew/Israelite religion only...

I heard an interesting thing recently, the Magi didn't ride in on camels, they rode in on Arabian steeds and probably had a cavalry unit with them. They didn't work for kings, they were king makers and at the time, Persia didn't have a king because he was deposed by the Magi. Still trying to track down the details but Herod had reason to fear the fact that the Magi wanted to so honor one born king, when he obviously occupied the throne and these people represented enormous political influence. Danial in Babylon, was made overseer of the Magi, others included, but they were probably very well acquainted with Old Testament prophecy. That's why they were there, they knew about the promised Messiah and how they knew about that star is anyone's guess. The bulk of his forces were off somewhere fighting, Herod made a desperate attempt to save his throne from what he would have considered an imminent threat.Well, it probably was "spiritual"...
But, what kind or type of Spirit, and/or good or bad, is the question...?
Was it the one meant to lead the wise men to Jesus so they could bow to him or before him, and recognize and/or show honor and respect and or pay homage, or do obeisance to what/who they knew was going to be the future king of the entire world and/or Heaven...?
Or was it the one who really, desperately wanted that baby killed, and "now", and "right now," or soon, or before he became much of a problem and/or threat...?
That is the question...?

That could be.Jesus says the Scriptures testify of me. It is pretty clear to me. Your not seeing the verse about how a star comes out of Jacob and a ruler coming out of Israel as the Messiah because you don't want to see that. Jesus is called the king of the Jews.

There is no scriptural defense for such an unbiblical manmade tradition, that didn't exist until 1,500 years after Jesus Christ founded His Church. Jesus Christ founded one Church, said it was to remain one, and promised that one Church the fullness of God's truth. It is because of that promise that the book compiled by that one Church can be considered the Word of God. When Martin Luther defected from the one Church Jesus Christ founded, he had to have something to claim as an authority, so He chose a book of Catholic writings compiled by the bishops of the Catholic Church at the direction of the Pope. He claimed that because that book is the Word of God, it alone could be the source of truth. What he overlooked is the obvious fact that anything we read has to be interpreted correctly in order to provide truth. Before he died, there were 7 other Protestant churches, founded by people who had broken away from his church because they disagreed with his interpretations of the Bible. The doctrinal chaos of Protestantism had begun. Today, 500 years later, there are more than 6,000 registered Protestant denominations, plus 20,000 so-called "non-denominational" Protestant churches, each claiming to be teaching the truth because what they teach comes from "the Bible alone", yet the teaching of each one contradicting the teaching of the others. Truth cannot contradict truth, so there is obviously a tremendous amount of untruth being taught by such churches. In the meantime, the ONE Church founded by Jesus Christ remains ONE in belief, ONE in teaching, ONE in worship, ONE in biblical understanding throughout the world after 2,000 years, with NO conflicting denominations. You just can't beat God's plan.
Is an author of a book an outside authority to his own written work?
You mean an outside authority from the Holy Spirit inspired Scriptures is needed to authorize?
Or is it the other way. That men knowing the divine attributes and authoritative nature of Scriptures recognized such?
As did men and women recognizing an itinerant Rabbi who taught in opposition to the then sitting Magisterium.
What does that mean?
Who decided which books/letters/epistles were inspired and therefore to be included in the canon of scripture and which were to be left out?

Well they were into all that but I've always thought Daniel left an impression on them. The star might have been a special revelation, God could communicate with them in dreams.The Magi weren’t Jews and being driven by scripture but probably used astrology and astronomy as a means of guidance.
