Anyone suggest scriptural support for this idea ?

I have always thought we were in God's 7th day by faith, given that He invites us to be there with Him now. (Heb 4)
There are two meanings I heard of.

1. Adam being created on the 8th day (humanity created on day 6, God rested on the 7th day and then the creation of Adam, if Genesis 2 is read as following Gen 1 chronologically).

2. In the early Christian church, the resurrection of Jesus on Sunday was sometimes called "the 8th day", instead of the first day of the week. Meaning the completeness of God's plan, new creation. Its used for example in the epistle of Barnabas.

There is no 8th day of Creation. God created the earth in 6 days Genesis 1 and rested from His work on the seventh day. He blessed and sanctified the seventh day. Gen 2:1-3. God commanded us this same cycle work 6 days Exo 20:9 but keep the seventh day Sabbath holy Exo 20:8-11 as a memorial for man to remember where we came from and Who created us. God gave His Sabbath to bless and sanctify us because man can’t sanctify themselves, we are to be dependent on God. Eze 20:12 Isa 56:1-6 even today. Hebrews 4 which was written decades after the Cross was reminding us the Sabbath rest was available at Creation Heb 4:3-4 and remains for God’s people Heb 4:9NIV. God said He would not alter His Words Psa 89:34, the author of Hebrews didn’t either.

The language of the 8th day isn't expressly found in Scripture, though Scripture provides the raw material for this way of thinking by talking about resurrection and new creation in Christ. The earliest use of the 8th day that I am aware of comes from the Epistle of Barnabas, which was possibly written in the late Apostolic period, if not the very early Sub-Apostolic period. So it is language that arises very early and has, as its basis, those things which Scripture talks about.

Scripture uses the language of newness, of new creation, to talk about regeneration; connecting it to the resurrection of Christ and our participation in it by God's grace. The most clear way of talking about it is when Scripture talks about Baptism, that in our baptism we died, were buried, and were raised with Christ to newness of life. This is why, historically, baptismal fonts are eight-sided; the number 8 has been used symbolically to represent regeneration and new life in Christ because of this association with the 8th day of creation as new creation.

Some Scriptural support would be that circumcision was done on the 8th day after a male child was born, that there is new creation in Christ, and that Christ is the new man/second Adam.

Good responses thanks,

It seems that is we are to enter His rest on His seventh day then this from heavens perspective is still happening right across time being His rest not a day on earth.

Day 8 - slim support from scripture it seems.

The 1st day is the 8th day, still the same day, only different counting.

"Therefore we celebrate the eighth day with joyfulness, in the which Jesus rose again from the dead; and having been manifested, ascended into the heavens."
Epistle of Barnabas, Chapter 15

There is no support for calling the day 8th, but much support for the day after the 7th day being the most important day for Christians and for the world, in the Bible, with the most important events happening on that day.

If the first 7 days were for physical things in the ancient Jewish symbolism (6 days of physical creation and 1 day of physical rest), the "8th" day was the spiritual creation of new man, of new heavens and earth, with spiritual rest and joy - the prophecised perfection and completeness.

Purely speciation.

If the 7th day is Gods day of completion where humanity has all it needs to flourish. Could the 8th day not be the day of rebellion?. And as a parallel Jesus redeems from sin death and separation on the 8th day. In a sense whatever wrong Adam did on this day, as a second Adam, Jesus corrected.

MOD HAT ON

By staff consensus, this thread has been cleaned and reopened. Please stay on topic, which is the immediate time after the week of creation (8th day), and not the continuing keeping of the Sabbath in modern Christianity.
