This is just my opinion, I know I do not speak for others. I love Star trek, so i know what it is like to enjoy a show and have others trash talk it. Anyways, now that I have said that...

I detest this show. I do not understand how someone can watch this show without feeling the urge to vomit. it is like eating cotton candy, it is ok to have a little, but eventually it is so sweet that you just want to hurl.
As is 95% of network tv.....

One thing to keep in mind is that, as Christians, we limit the degree to which Hollywood is willing to delve into faith. Because no one complains louder when Christians are depicted onscreen than Christians themselves.

The problem is not simply about positive or negative depictions; the complaints are so much more specific (i.e. this show is anti-Catholic, that show is anti-Protestant, that character's teaching violates John 14:6, etc). That's why Jesus is never depicted; no one wants the headache of dealing with all the Christians who don't think the Jesus in the show is the "correct" Jesus. That's why religiously-based shows rarely get into doctrine.

That's why the churches are almost always fairly bland and generic; the goal is to get as large of an audience as possible, and if they're too denominationally specific, they will offend part of their audience. That's why angels and prophets in Hollywood media (i.e. Touched by an Angel, K-PAX, Holy Man, etc) never seem to have a strong opinion on anything.

It's not because there's a conspiracy to sell feel-good humanism as faith; it's that feel-good humanism is the safest thing for supposedly religious characters to preach. It sounds moral and idealistic, and it manages to appeal to the sensibilities of both a religious audience and a secular audience just enough for both to empathize with the characters. And as soon as you depict characters evangelizing or preaching a specific teaching, you will begin to alienate people.

Because as soon as you get into specifics - i.e. whether Christ was fully human, or whether He'd like our current president, the boycotts will come like a hailstorm. Most Hollywood types just plain don't want that headache.

So it's not about trying to depict Christians as they think Christians are. It's about depicting Christians in a way to get both Christians and nonchristians to watch. And that means they have to cut out the little idiosyncracies that make characters controversial and interesting.

One point to include on the issue of some reality TV shows is the amount of swearing, poor taste and stupidity that is associated with some aspects of them. If it is considered normal to follow the trends of some of these shows I don't think it would help society in any way. Instead we should make up our own minds about what we watch and not to settle for what we first see, no matter how easy it is. ;)

he, 7th Heaven is full of people proclaiming Christianity in the show I mean, but after I saw an episode and saw 3 pastors and cop drinking together, from that point I wasn't interested in the show as a Christian show,

Oh for crying out loud...it was never intended to be a Christian show just because one character is a pastor!!! People take the show's title and the fact that one character is a pastor way to literally.

It a television show that has no agenda other than to entertain. To make demons and superstitions out of it is just plain silly...

My family and I have watched the show from time to time (it used to be more regular, we just got tired of it and moved on) and at the time it wasn't bad. Some things upset me(like anyother t.v. show) and some things I thought were good(also like other t.v. shows). I think it's important to keep in perspective that the show sells. For the most part in this industry it is after all a quest for ratings, endorsements and don't forget that there are a bunch of people who want to get paid. Be sober-minded in your judgements not being quick to get hot-headed over their depiction of lifestyles. We can probably pick out of our own communities(if not in our own families or our of ourselves for that matter) people who fit the description of what is despicable programming. They are television shows after all and they can be what you make it or allow them to be. Do not allow them to have a negative effect on your life and if you fear they might eliminate them from your sight. Do not be too fast to point fingers at programming or programmers or for that matter the entertainers, rather let us examine ourselves and be careful we are not blaming the wrong parties. We know that this world is not of God and we have the beautiful reminder that Christ came for the sake of saving all those who would receive Him. Now let us strive to further a kingdom worthy of our Lord and not protest so that we make this simply an exclusive club where members are picked by men and women. Stand firm for the Lord and do not be shaken, and be all that you can in your own lives to show the world what it really means to be one of God's sons and daughters: a brother and sister in Christ.

Yeah, I don't think it was meant to be a Christian show. One of the main characters is a pastor, and so God comes through on the parts it shows him preaching... but for the most part, 7th Heaven--WB drama--teen show.

It was meant for teenagers, Christian or not... I think you can kinda tell too, as it has "brady bunch" storylines.

I like it though. I don't watch it all the time, but it's decent enough.
