  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does God audibly speak to you in prayer?

  • Yes. God talks to me all of the time.

Is this belief that God has not directly communicated with us since Christ's day a denominational teaching or just an individual belief?

It looked like it was a Presbyterian thing but I see an Anglican with the same view...

A question to the OP... are you saying that those around the world and throughout time that did not have the written Word were automatically denied knowledge of God and therefore not eligible to see God? This doesn't seem like the heart of a loving God...

The idea the God talks back to us when we pray has become so accepted that it's difficult to challenge, but is it true or a cliché?

I think it is true. Now it is not always audible sometimes it can be certain things throughout the day in answer to pray. Now I don not believe we get new Revelation but confirmation that He is always guiding us.

Any argument based on what was typical of life in the garden of Eden is flawed in proposing a norm for the intermediate time between the expulsion of man and the Eschaton. And if the OT records a number of occasions when God worked in extraordinary ways, one must remember the purpose and setting of those writings: It is primarily a record of God's extraordinary dealings with a small particular people in a broad world. That extraordinary events occur at a high rate should be unsurprising and should not be taken as normative or a pattern for the ordinary workings of God.

As for speaking face to face with Moses, that must be allegorized to some degree as Moses could not gaze upon the unfiltered glory of God, but only upon his backside in passing.

Good reply, and well though out.

The Holy Spirit is here to guide us, and I believe that when we pray, when we show faith through prayer, we do receive answers, in some form or another. My opinion, fwiw. :)

God promises that if we ask for bread He will not give us a stone, so I agree that He answers prayer; however, that's a different question than the OP.

Does your poll need more choices? I would like
to vote that it seems to me that God has spoken to me audibly, in times
of prayer, and through my spirit softly and warningly. You used the word
"all" which makes it hard to choose on your poll as it has never been always
in prayer nor every time I pray that I know of.

God has spoken to you audibly? What did He say?

One time was shortly after I was saved. Revealed to me that I would teach His written
word. Another time was years later, when walking on a sidewalk.

Other people have also told me that they heard from God as to my
calling.

What did He say? You said it was an audible voice, correct? If so, then which specific words did you hear? And, which specific words did the others hear?

an earthquake before it started -told me, Valerie -get in the
doorway.

You said that you heard an audible voice telling you to preach, yet I noticed that your name is Valerie. Not knowing any men by that name, I assume you are a woman, correct? This is why I asked you specifically what the voice told you. God is not the author of confusion. He would never contradict Himself.

Yes, I'm a lady. God called me and confirmed it to me many
times over the years very strongly.

As scripture plainly forbids such a thing, I have no further questions about these voices. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

A true worshipper shall worship God in the Spirit.

This is the verse: "But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him."

What point are you trying to make that pertains to the OP?

Hey,
My post earlier I was trying to point out that when we pray we pray in the Spirit.
We pray with truth
We pray in humanity, humbling ourselves before God.
We pray with faith and trust
We wait for the still small voice to guide us.
And above all, listen to God.

Some people pray and request for things to fulfill their own lusts. God said no, but they heard it not, because their own thoughts overlapped God's

Sorry about not explaining clearly earlier... I am on a phone right now... really hard to type!
God Bless.
