this is the message my pastor had last night and i just thought i would share it!!
WHY WE SHOULD PRAY
1 because the devil is real
Ephesians 6:10-13 finally my bretheren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to stand.
When we don't pray we leave the door open for the devil
Genesis 4:7 ......and if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. and it's desire is for you but you should rule over it.
The devil will walk by the door 1000 times just to find it open/cracked just once
2 to confess our sins
1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins , He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness
3 to receive things from God
James 4:2 .....yet you do not have because you do not ask
4 to deal with worries and cares
Philippians 4:6-7 be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
1 Peter 5:6-7 therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.
If we worry we are denying God's wisdom (saying He doesn't know what we need). We are denying God's love (saying He doesn't care). We are denying God's power (saying He can't help)
5 for God to meet our needs
Hebrews 4:16 let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
6 ask in the name of the Lord Jesus
because it's the only name to get salvation through
Acts 4:12 Nor is there salvation in any other for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved
He is our mediator
1 Timothy 2:5 for there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus
7 because Jesus is praying for us
Hebrews 7:25 therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him since He always lives to make intercession for them.

John 17:20 I do not pray for these alone but also for those who will believe in Me through their word
