The highest levels of Government support have been offered to shaken Canterbury people after this morning's massive quake, the most damaging since the 1931 Napier earthquake.

To date no loss of life, some serious injury. Alot of damage. Please pray for the people of canternbury and christchurch as they begin to sort out damage, and rebuild their lives

Balance, from what I understand people from overseas can donate money (online donation) but I believe we've "thanks but no thanks" to international aid as we are able to deal with this ourselves in New Zealand. It was a relatively small area affected seriously compared to the size of NZ so helps come from up North and that in the way of police, and the army is in Christchurch anyhow who are providing assistance. We have a government earthquake insurance thing that always seemed silly to have to give money to (compulsory with insurance and it's a reasonable chunk ish too) but now seems very well spent.

We luckily only lost our fridge (gave up the cooling but wasn't otherwise damaged).
