When you take 6 and add the integers of 6 to each letter of our alphabet, the sum is a well known Biblical number............

I don't understand the logic behind making the Latin alphabet carry numerical values in multiples of six. Is there a reason or just arbitrary? Couldn't we just as easily use multiples of two, three, seventeen or thirty-one?

Also, I don't understand why we'd be using the modern Latin alphabet in this regard, a number of our letters are relatively modern additions such as J, W and Y.
