The orthodox fast, if strictly done is very tough. No meat, no oil, no dairy, no alcohol, and no marital relations. This is the majority of the lentin fast which is 40 days. There are a couple of days that have fish, and a few more that allow oil.

The nativity fast is less strict, though it is about to go up a notch. today was the last "fish" day, and there are only 5 oil days that show up before Christmas.

Your are not supposed to pig out on bread and lentels either. Fasting without prayer is also considered the fast of demons.

I find it very difficult at the beginning. I am always attacked spiritualy.

We also fast twice a week almost year round. The fasts take up more than half of the year.

i used to be greek orthodox.....it is a pretty difficult fast,...and also quite unhealthy too..but thats fully cool. i dont do them anymore anyway

a real fast is nothing but water.You cannot fast and work,past the 1st day.You SHOULD NEVER FAST,if you are not BORN OF GOD.
It is very dangerous.Because demons will make your mind confused and could take over.
FASTING is too allow the inner man ,born of GOD ,to gain control over the flesh!
We do not see our spirits.BUT THAT IS WHO WE REALLY ARE.WE ARE NOT THESE WEAK TEMPORY BODYS.They are kinda like a car.We drive it a while and junk it!
The unseen is forever.That is the body.WE ARE JUST LIKE GOD ,spirits but trapped in these bodys for a very short time!
I would say?ASK JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART.TELL HIM,YOU ACCEPT HIM AS LORD AND MASTER.TELL HIM.YOU WILL OBEY HIM FOREVER MORE.THEN YOU WILL KNOW SALVATION,BECAUSE THEN YOU WILL EXPERIANCE THE NEW BIRTH.THEN TALK WITH GOD!HE WILL HEAR AND ANSWER.If not,Your not BORN OF GOD .BECAUSE THE SON DIED TO BRING US BACK,TO THE PLACE WE COULD TALK WITH HIM AND HE WITH US!WHY ELSE WOULD HE CREATE US!

Dear Sister in Christ
The Lord will sustain you.This is my experience with a 40 day fasts and it is just for reference. The Lord may do something entirely different with you, so I humbly submit this. On the physical side, for the first 7-10 days I found that I was dealing with wanting to eat and temptations to break the fast. Spritually I felt in a battle. Somewhere around the 14th to the 21st day I entered into the period of euphoria physically and spiritually I entered into a place of great clarity, that is I could hear the Lord more clearly. I recommend prayer and a little tlc to the body. I may found that I needed more rest, and the Lord encouraged that. From that point until about the 40th day the presence of the Lord was incredibly intense. The body, on the other hand, what sustained but somewhat weaker. Again, resting a little more, proved helpful and increased quiet time with the Lord was strengthening. Around the 35th day, I began to deal with real hunger and I was somewhat uncomfortable at varying degrees, however calling upon the Lord transformed this experienced and I found it easy to pull my attention from hunger to the Lord. Breaking the fast was the hardest thing to do, so the Lord helped me to create a ritual of thanksgiving with Him and I broke the fast on the 40th day in prayer and thanksgiving. These fasts are an incredible blessing. I also find that if I try to do the fast on my own and am not called to it, I don't suceed. I believe that the Lord will sustain you. I am praying for you

I just began a 40 day fast, I am on day 3. Sun up to sun down...6am to 6pm. I am dealing with some warfare and I believe things can change when I submit myself and everything to God.

My experiance is the same,But the 3rd day ,I could hear the LORD perfectly.I knew what people would say ,before they spoke.i could see there spirits.if they were righteous or evil.in fact?I told my wife.Her best friend had a evil spirit.She got very mad.but a few days later.said she was sorry.when the girl did some evil things!colors,I could look at the same color and see the flaws or color changes in it!one thing?I tried playing chess with a guy,and could not keep my mind on that game!

I'm doing my 2nd 40 day right now. Today was day 17, the hardest day so far. I remeber my last fast and day 16 was the worst. Someone once told me that after the 3rd day of fasting they did not desire food at all, this has not been the case for me. God's strength has been sustaining me perfectly and completely, but today I have allowed myself to wrestle with temptation instead of just cutting it out of my mind immediatly. The first week was mostly difficult because my hubbie was fighting me on it, I know that my battle is not with flesh and blood, poor guy did not know that he was being used by our enemy. He is OK now.

wow you go BattleAxe , dont give up just keep going like every meal u miss, you can eat that stuff later i mean com'on thats a gift to fast the long, my mother use to say she knew this man, who could only last till morning to 12noon. so like i was saying...its a gift keep going....GBU

Fasting has its place. I have done a few fasts, but have only done them for a few days at a time. The longest I have fasted was four days on water with an occasional vitamin tablet so that I was at least making sure I wasn't damaging my body too badly. I will admit though, the absence of the compulsion to have food was a light surprise to my previous expectation. Either way, I felt that my prayers during my fasting were going to God with more emphasis becuase I was fasting.

God will not allow anyone to use Him for convience. At least, fasting seems to give more powerful emphasis to prayers.

I commend you on your fasting for 40 days. I had began to do this last year but wasn't spiritually commited. Now this is my first day of my 40 day fast. I don't eat between 6am-6pm. And if I do eat before or after, I don't eat any meat. I disagree with spirit1st. If the Lord has led you to fast fo 40 days, do it. Be obedient to the Holy Spirit. Jesus did it. Elijah did it too. Pray for me as I continue to pray for you.

Our ministry does a 40 day fast like you talk about not eating from sun-upto sundown. It is the way muslims fast durring Rammadan so one fall we decided to pray for muslim around the worl to come to know Jesus and fasted in the same manner they do.....I have to admit it was harder for me to fast, then eat, then fast again....harder then when I fast for a few days at a time.....

on a side note one poster mentioned 40 day fast with only water are bad for you...not at all, in fact it is very good for your body and mind...so for those considering doing a extended fast, please dont let fear keep you from it.... I too am startign an extended fast and have been reserching a lot before hand....I am amazed and the benefits of fasting, not just spirtualy but physically and emotionally....I had a friend who God healed her of tumors during a 21 day fast.

FASTING part time,will do little!
FASTING to staving the flesh.
FASTING will allow the inner man to take control.# or 4 days is enough.
This inner man,is what the bible teaches us about?Walking in our spirit.We are too walk in our spirit,who will yeild too GODS SPIRIT ALWAYS!
Few appear to understand this.The bible tells us in many places to walk in our spirit!
Most have little or no understanding of there spirits.fewer are born of the spirit.Which is being BORN OF GOD!
