CM, I get those same kind of connections often. We were on the surrender chapter and later I watched a show on the treatment of prisoners of war. How surrender meant very different things depending on whom you surrendered to. There were lots of smiling faces on the soldiers who surrendered to American armed forces. To them, surrender meant safety, the end of a lost war, a rebuilding, and liberty for their country. I know it's a stretch but flagwaving aside, when we surrender to God it's similar. We win! We get spiritual shelter, food (The Word of God), and protection.

Last week I was sick and couldn't go to the small group, and this week our car was in the shop (for FIVE days!) so I missed it again.

The message on worship this Sunday was okay, but the one the first week was much better. Kind of disappointing because I love worship.

I feel like I've missed on a lot though since I didn't get to go to the small groups the last two weeks.

I just read my third daily installment, and I gotta say this and the previous chapter hasn't hit as hard as the first one. For me, the issues it addresses were never really big things for me but the first day really made me realise that it's not about my wants and desires, it's about God's. A little scary, but still very very awesome! We'll see how the day turns out after I reflect on today's reading.

It's amazing to me that I used to go to Church with my parents and never, ever looked at scripture in the ways that I am now. Back then, it was strictly "believe that Jesus died for your sins" and that was, literally, it.

Living in the family of God, through the Church, living for his purpose, his pleasure - praising him and giving thanks, all of that was just not focused upon. It's like I am discovering a new side of Christianity. That's what I get for not reading the Bible as a kid!

In America, especially in the suburbs, we are so opposed to having a family outside of our homes. We go to work, pull into our driveways and click our garages open, close the doors behind us - never really talking to our neighbors. We guard ourselves against those not in our direct families. When your doorbell rings, what is your first thought? Is it "Oh, good, a visitor!" or is "Who is it? what do they want? What are they trying to sell me?"

My whole outlook on life is changing through my re-reading of the scripture through the help that PDL has been giving me.
