3rd Commandment---Thou shalt not take God's name in vain.
Means that when you call on Him know where He is and have NO doubt that He will answer you. God gives what we NEED and not what we want. He's always to INCREASE for good and DECREASE what is bad.
Don't call on God doubting Him. To use His name in vain doesn't mean using words that mankind has made up unless they are TRYING to blaspheme. It still isn't a good idea to use the term--sounds as if we are judging others by damning them or trying to be disrespectful of God and His wishes.
It also has to do with the perspective of the less mature--they think it's a sin, we use it and it causes them to view Christians as sinners and fallen. We're not to cause others to stumble.

God must have took a rest on Friday. I'm sure that the 20 kids NEEDED His protection that day and I'm quite sure there would be a least one call on Him for help.

It's odd how a Godless generation who lives like the devil, and who do not know the Lord, or His Word, nor who seek after His righteous can say "where was God?"

Well, you're a Christian. Why don't you ask him then?

Matt. 17:17 "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me."
One who knows God, and His Word, does not need to ask.:)

So, how would you explain this incident from the perspective of Buddhism? Who or what would be at fault?

The shooter is at fault. He'll come back in a lower status or life form.

Most Christians would agree with the first part--it's the shooter who is at fault. As far as what will become of him, I think most Christians would simply say that he'll have to stand before God as we all will.

God is he head, brain and life of His body of believers and His name is Jesus Christ.
God is in each of us and has always been. He came forth of His spirit in the form a man. We are to not see the flesh but the Father/spirit within.
Yeshua Bless You

I have no idea what that means.

Of you could take the historical/gramamtical/cultural approach to the third commandment instead of just making things up.

Hmmm a whole culture may be at fault and combination of factors involving politics and special interests.. God allows us freedom to choose and sometimes we don't choose wisely.

Hopefully we can begin to turn the mess around and reduce the violence.

I understand that the shooter didn't use his free will wisely and God, mercifully, didn't interfere with his action. What free will action that the children didn't choose freely that day? They had a chance to duck and didn't? It's nice that the shooter's free will was more important than these children's free will to live.

How can that be so as Jesus said:-

Matt 6:9
Our Father in heaven, may YOUR NAME be honored, (thus not his!)

and

John 17:26
I made known YOUR NAME name to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them.”

So what "name" did Jesus make known, when talking of God?
