  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been using a Canon S60 for the last year or so, and have been more than pleased with the results its given me. However, I feel that now I would like to upgrade to a digital SLR, and have been looking at the Canon EOS 350 and 30D cameras. I was wondering whether the 30D is worth the extra money, or whether it would be better spending more money on better lenses?

[FONT=&quot]This is ironic because i was just thinking and talking about the D30

I have not used one, i just saw one at the store today.

I am very very happy with my 350D though, I love it.

Even though I have not used a D30, they cost a little short of twice as much as I paid for my un used 350D and to me that just doesn't seem worth it at all, I would much rather buy some killer lenses, I think I would be soo much better off that way because even if i bought a D30 I would want new lenses so basically in a very long way I'm suggesting the 350D and lenses but i really hope you find some one who has used both cameras and can compare!

PEACE AND LOVE!

A third option I suggest you strongly consider is buying a used 20D. From everything I've read the 30D really does not have that many differences and even uses the same sensor.

I have owned my 350D for about a month now and have shot nearly 3,000 pics and am absolutly in love with this camera. The image quality is incredible and handling is great as well.

Since this will be your first DSLR I would lean towards (as I have done) the 350D so you can spend even more money on your lenses to get a good collection. After 2-3 years or so, sell the body and get yourself a super-nice professional grade one then, once you've got your good glass.

The number one rule, though, is that your camera is only as good as the lens.

Also for reference I highly recommend www.dpreview.com for in-depth reviews/comparisons.

Enjoy and good luck with the decision, both are AMAZING cameras!

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look for used 20Ds but it seems that if I spend a hundred pounds or so more I can pick up a brand new 30D. Also, I'd prefer a 2 year guarantee. The picture quality looks pretty sharp on the 350D so I'm still drawn towards that. Will keep the comments in mind while I do some extra research.

What do you intend to use the camera for? Snapshooting, frequent photography work as an amateur hobbyist? Professional level shooting? In today's digital world, the camera is now just as important as the lens you attach to it. It's not just a box and shutter anymore. If I were in your position and if you can afford it, I'd go with the 30D or a 20D. They're basically the same camera with a few minor differences. The 20D was already good to begin with. Some of my peers are already shooting professionally with the 30D and the initial reports on the camera performance are very good.

The Canon 350D is a fine camera, but you need to be careful about durability. Should be fine for most people's needs.
