One question that would make you Christian.

You have violated the Law. The Judge finds you guilty and sends you to jail. Suddenly, somebody you don't even know comes and offers to bear your punishment for you, so you will be granted your freedom.

The question: Will you take this free gift?

Actually, no I wouldn't.

Luckily, that is not the point of Christianity.

I started to answer all of those questions, and thought, why should I? Because of three reasons:

1) The Truth is available for all to learn. If you don't want to learn it or accept it, that's your decision, but one that your going to have to defend when you stand before the throne.

2) Faith. That's why we Christians believe what we believe.

3) Love for our Lord. He died for us on the cross and proved his deity by rising from the dead 3 days later. This sealed our guranteed entrance into Heaven, should we choose to accept his gift of salvation and redemption.

1. Why would God entrust the spreading of 'His' word to one of his 'fallible' children? He knows men are sinners and are untruI doubt a professor would allow one of his students to teach a class if all the other students' futures were at stake. If God loved us so much and he wants us to be with him, why would he put our eternal souls at risk like that?

God uses us to do his work. He doesn't just sit back and see if we mess up or not. That's why all glory goes to him whenever someone gets saved.

2. If Satan is the ultimate trickster, how do we know that Satan hasn't tricked Christians into worshipping him as God (Yahweh) and are actually rebuking the "real" God in his own name? - Inspired by Cice Mool

Again, God doesn't just sit back and let us fight Satan on our own. God has made known who the real God is, and wouldn't just let a phony recieve worship without doing something. God lets us know through His Word also, so "We are not ignorant of Satan's devices."

3. If god cast the devil into hell and hell is a place for eternal punishment from which even god cannot grant a pardon, then why do the preachers tell us the devil is walking up and down the hallways of high schools tempting teenagers to do drugs and have pre-marital sex? A warden who allows his prisoners the freedom to go out and kill and rape would be terminated for incompetence. - jshanahan@austin.rr.com

That is not correct. God has cast Satan out of Heaven, but not into hell. God will cast Satan and all his demons, and all who don't repent when the End comes.

4. I have often heard from many believers that even Satan has a presence in the church, which is why even in church people can still have impure thoughts. If Satan can find his way in the church, how do Christians know that Satan didn't find his way into the Bible and twist the whole book? - The Infidel Guy

As stated before, God gets the glory for making the Bible, not man. He just used man to make it. Satan is not powerful enough to destroy God's Word.

5. If the Universe is everywhere by definition, why do theists ask where it came from? How can there be anywhere for the universe to come from if the Universe is already everywhere by definition? - Chris and The Infidel Guy

1) Any theological discussion on origins is "how" God made the universe, not "did", or "who". Theists know all things came from God.
2) The book of John says that through Jesus, all things were made. If the universe was made, Jesus made it.

6. Does God think? If so, he cannot be all-knowing. Think about it. - The Infidel Guy

Do you ever think about your childhood? Or think about what you did yesterday? Just because you think on these things doesn't mean you don't know what happened to you during these times. Just because God thinks something, that doesn't mean he doesn't know.

7. If a soul is non-physical and the human body is physical, how does a soul stay in our bodies?

Good question. The same way your mind is not physical, but it's with you wherever you go.

8. If God is all-knowing, how could he be disappointed in His creation? -- Pm453ca@aol.com
The Bible says in Genesis that God was grieved that he created man, not disappointed. There's a difference. A little child can be grieved about recieving a shot, even though they are told well in advance, and have full knoweledge of what's going to happen.

9. If God is unchangeable (immutable), how is there evidence of a god when everything else around us is changing? - The Infidel Guy

God's creations changing offers no indication that he is changing. Just because you redecorate your room doesn't mean you've changed. Just because a TV doesn't work, it doesn't mean the maker of it has.

10. Why did God flood the earth to remove evil? It didn't work! Evil came right back, God should have known that would happen! So why did He bother? - PhineasBg
Weren't all the wicked people during Noah's time removed from the face of the earth? And remember, people have always had the choice as to whether or not they want to do evil. So if re-created a perfect world, with perfect humans, and they choose to commits evil, it's not God's fault that it exists. That person of thier own God-given free will brought that evil into the world---"Through one man, sin was brought into the world..."

11. Why is it that theists tell me that I have to examine every part of the universe and not find God anywhere in order to say that there is no god, when in fact all I need to do is not find God in one location since he is supposed to be omnipresent? - Chris

Everywhere you look there is evidence of God. From the air that you breath which God has designed using plants to cycle carbon-dioxide and oxygen, to the cells in your body, ever present with you, built as one remarkalble machine.

12. If the garden of Eden was a perfect paradise as xians claim, then why did Eve even want to eat the apple? Wouldn't a perfect place provide everything a person would want or desire and thus she would want nothing? - keyser soze
Another great question. Paradise was perfect. But she thought that what appeared to be more than what God offered would be even better that what God had. She was wrong. That's the nature of sin---it seems good, and at times better than God's way....but that's wrong.

13. Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death" Does this mean animals sin as well? Or uni-cellular organisms? Do plants sin? Because they all die as well, not just humans. Why does an animal die, if it doesn't know the moral difference between right and wrong? - Nef

God means the eternal death of burning in hell forever. Not physical death. Jesus died a physical death, but because he's sinless, will never know hell---or the "Second death", as the Bible calls it.

14. Why would an all-powerful god become flesh in order to sacrifice himself to himself so that his creation might escape the wrath of himself. Couldn't god, in his infinite wisdom, come up with something a little more efficient? - Omphaloskeptic2@aol.com
Christ took our punishment---which is death. The only way for Jesus to pay that punishment was to become flesh, which is able to die.

15. If we are the children of god, and yet we have never seen him, does that make us the *******s of god? Not to mention my mom didn't marry God- hyasynth_vii@yahoo.com
That word means someone who doesn't have a father, or doesn't know who thier father is. We both have and know who our father is.

16. After 9/11 a lot of people have been tossing around "god bless america". Why do they keep saying this? From the looks of it god hasn't blessed anything. If god had blessed america, the 9/11 event would've never happened. Theists seem to give the answer of "everything is part of gods big plan". If everything is part of gods big plan, why are we after Bin Laden? Wasn't he and other terrorists just carrying out gods desired plan? So it seems that Bin Laden/ terrorism isnt our enemy , but god. - rsri13@hotmail.com
America is by far, the richest and most powerful nation on earth. Looks like God has blessed us.

17. Christians say that God is NOT the author of confusion. Can you say, Tower of Babel? - The Screaming Monkeys
The people in that story then gathered themselves together, according to language, and spread out over the earth. That is organized.

18. Christians will tell you that if a baby dies it goes to heaven. Why then are they so against abortion? All the child is being deprived of is the opportunity to go to hell. Either that or god expects unborn fetuses to accept Jesus. - dissolvedego@satannet.org
Just because they go to heaven doesn't mean it's okay to murder. It's not right for me to kill a pastor, just because he'll go to heaven.

19. Why does God have emotions (jealousy, anger, sadness, love, etc.) if he is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent? Emotions are reactionary, how can God react to us if he is all-knowing and has a divine plan?

Great question. If I tell you I'm going to murder your mother one month from now, and you know I'm sincere because I am a violent person who brought gun, wouldn't you still be angry when I do it?

20. If Jesus Christ is allegedly the omnipotent god made flesh.....how is it that he did not inherit Original Sin? Remember, he is allegedly Man and god in union, and if truly man, as well as god, he must have inherited Original Sin. ???- His Lordship, Lucifer

Jesus didn't inherit sin from his father, Joseph, because he didn't come from Joseph. He had nothing to do with Mary's getting pregnant, and therefore couldn't pass sin along to Jesus.
He didn't get sinful nature from Mary, because she had nothing to do with him coming into being. Jesus existed before Mary. Mary was just the vehicle chosen to bring him to earth.

21. If God is the father of Jesus, what is Jesus' DNA like? Does God have sperm? If he doesn't, where did Mary get the DNA from that was needed to make Jesus? This would make Mary asexual and Jesus would then be a girl. No Y chromosome. - chris_crispy@hotmail.com and Rebe2amble@aol.com

.....What? Jesus was born a man, like any regular man is born, with all the physical properties of a man. Just minus the sin nature.
God is all powerful. He doen't need to use sperm to create a baby.

22. I never got the remote controlled car I prayed for as a child, but if I want to go to hell, will God grant my wish?.... Gee, thanks God! - dissolvedego@satannet.org
1) God is not a genie. He does like to give good gifts to His chldren, but what parent gives the every whim and desire to thier child? Not a good one.
2) It's your choice how you choose to live, either God's way or your way, which determines if you go to hell or not. If you choose hell, it's a profoundly foolish choice, but it's yours to make.

23. In the "Last Days" Jesus is supposed to appear in the clouds. How are the Christians on the opposite end of the world going to see him? Are there going to be millions of Jesus'? What about people that work underground? - Rebe2amble@aol.com
The Bible says that well will meet Christ in the air, and be caught up with him. All who are there with Him will see Him.

25. If the earth was covered by a complete global flood, every living creature killed except those surviving on the ark, why are there many completely unique animal species in Australia that are found no where else indigenously on the earth? - mitch@mchsi.com
Not every animal went to every region on earth, obviously. Many animals or insects that need tropical weather to survive wouldn't go to places that are cold all the time, or become cold in winter. Each animal needs specific conditions. Each animal moved to where it would prosper correctly. The Australian animals either need the specific Australian climate, or wouldn't have been able to coincide in a balanced eco-system with other animals in a different area.
Otherwise known as Intelligent Design.

26. If god is omniscient and "god is love," why would he allow a child to be conceived, knowing that that child would one day reject him and spend eternity burning in a lake of fire? If I were god, I wouldn't allow it; I have more love for humanity than he does. -- TiredTurkeyProd

"For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten son; that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
It's your choice whether or not you you accept Christ so that you don't face hell. If you refuse him, it's your fault, not God's.

27. How can Heaven be utter bliss when you know that people you love and care about are burning in Hell? -- The Infidel Guy - ANSWER: - When we get to Heaven there will be no pain. God erases our memories of our loved ones that may be in Hell because he doesn't want to experience pain.

Revelations says that God will wipe every tear from our eye. If there is any pain from either a hard life, or the knowledge that our loved one is not there, God will comfort us, and there will be no more pain.

28. Revelations takes place on Earth. What if we colonize the moon or Mars or inhabit a self-sustaining space station? Do we escape "judgement"? -- Ray Sommers
The Bible does mention that even the moon will "Turn to blood." (Revelations 6:12) So whether on the moon or on earth, God's judgement is on those who don't repent.

30. If god did open the sea so that Moses and the jews could run away from Egypt, why didn't he open the concentration camps gates? -- Guilherme Hoffmann
God did deliver His people, and in fact, even returned them to thier land in 1947.

31. Why are we granted free will if our duty in this life to our god is to do as we are told? We are to follow rules upon threat of punishment. Is that free will? -- Gandalfs Nephew
We live in America, a free country. We are still supposed to obey the laws of the land. There's no contradiction there.

32. Isaiah 40:28 says, "...the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is he weary?" If this is true, why did God rest on the seventh day?
The Sabbath day is a day of rest for us. Whether or not you are tired, we are still to honor the Sabbath, and rest on that day, even if we just came from a relaxing cruise. God doesn't need to be tired to rest.

33. Everytime I go to a funeral the preacher and guests always say that "God" has called that person to Heaven or they say, "God said it was time to come home", or some such variation. If God is calling these people "home", why are we putting the murderers of these victims in prison? How can we punish a man or woman for doing God's will?[/QUOTE]
As stated before with the question of abortion, a person going to heaven is no excuse for murdering them.

Point taken. So in your view, what's the summarising point of Christianity?

If it could be summarized? Hmmm...

Christ's love outpoured, perhaps. Or just, "love".

Actually, that would be a good thread.

The point is.... We are all born sinners. We all sin. If you say you never sin, that's a sin. For lying is a sin.

Jesus died in our place, so that the punishment of separation from God because of sin would be paid for.

There is nothing we can do to work your way to God by doing good deeds. Doing good deeds can not remove the problem that we would be only sinners doing good deeds. Sin is still there. God must reject it on the basis that our righteousness is as filthy rags.

Yet, Christ fulfilled God's demands of his holiness and justice by eliminating the barrier between us and God caused by our sin. He died in our place. The only thing God requires of us to be saved, is to accept what Jesus did in our place.

John 6:28-29 niv
" Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

We are not saved by works (plural). Works in the plural is a system of deeds devised by man to win God's favor. Yet, there is only one singular work we are to do, which is required by God. Believe in Jesus Christ.

Those who get hyper technical and claim that we are not saved by works, fail to see that in the plural, works is a system. Yet, in the singular (work) it is one act of of our soul doing something that God requires. Believing is a private act of the soul. Only God sees it. Works are done by the flesh. Seen outwardly.

Ephesians 2:8-9 niv
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."

Those who say that believing is a "work", therefore claiming that we can not be saved by an act of ourselves, are missing the point of what that passage says. Works (plural) was a system devised by man to win God's approval. Believing, is a singular work. Believing, shows man's approval of God. Its not trying to win God's approval of man. Big difference!

Grace and peace, GeneZ

Shinbits,

You did an EXCELENT job of answering all of the (supposed) questions.

I would like to add just a couple of points as well...

shinbits said:
1. Why would God entrust the spreading of 'His' word to one of his 'fallible' children?.... put our eternal souls at risk like that?

God uses us to do his work. He doesn't just sit back and see if we mess up or not. That's why all glory goes to him whenever someone gets saved.

As another poster mentioned, it is not us, but the Holy Spirit (God) within us that leads others to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

The question is a misuse of terms. The "universe" did not exist before it was created. Before the "universe" there was "nothing" except God. The universe is the collection of all THINGS. That collection did not exist before God created it.

8. If God is all-knowing, how could he be disappointed in His creation? --

The Bible says in Genesis that God was grieved that he created man, not disappointed. There's a difference. A little child can be grieved about recieving a shot, even though they are told well in advance, and have full knoweledge of what's going to happen.

God created us to LOVE Him. In order for real love to occur, we MUST also have the ability NOT to love (free will). Since God desired real love, He had to accept the fact that there would be those that wold reject Him.

As a parent of five children, I can relate to this in that I knew before we concieved our children that they would someday get sick, suffer hardships and ultimately die. But we chose to have them in order to love them.

Some compare God to an artist or a potter who continually creates new pieces, collecting and treasuring the ones that give Him pleasure and destroying the ones that do not.

Adam and Eve's decision to disobey God started the clock for God's plan of redemption, which required that ALL things must die, which will ultimately concluded in the second coming of Jesus and the creation of a new heaven and a new earth.

I hope I can say this right. Because of sin, man owes a debt that man cannot pay, only God can. But, it is man's debt, so God became flesh to pay the debt as a man.

31. Why are we granted free will if our duty in this life to our god is to do as we are told? We are to follow rules upon threat of punishment. Is that free will? -- Gandalfs Nephew
We live in America, a free country. We are still supposed to obey the laws of the land. There's no contradiction there.

Love. Those that reject God would see living forever in Hispresence as "punishment", so God is merely goving them what they ask for.

I'm still unshaken.
1 Peter 3:15

"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."

This guy is awesome. I'm seriously doubting a few things about my faith. There are some key points that just don't add up. Thank you athiest guy. I know I'll figure out the truth before I die. Maybe this God guy isn't cracked up to be everything he's hyped up to be there for me all the time.
