  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

For those of you who don't know, this is a true story. The story revolves around the battle of Thermopylae during Xerxes' invasion of mainland Greece in 480 B.C. 300 Spartans stood in a narrow pass and fought against a persian army of about 200,000+.

If it wasn't for these 300 men, Western history would be vastly different. I can't wait until the movie comes out.

I've been watching the previews as they pop up on the 'Net and television.
Have to say that this is one of those films that gets me worked up long before the release.
While I do not expect it to be in anyway accurate to the historical information, I'm looking forward to the style it in which it is presented.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this movie is going to look like a Frazetta painting brought to life?

It is BASED loosely on the true story. The director and producers have said many times that this is not history (which will be made quite obvious by the demon-like "bad guys" and others). It looks GREAT.. and I can't wait for it to come out.

There are MANY historical flaws, and I'm sure this is why the director and producers have stated that it is not entirely history. Nevertheless, it is based on Xerexes' invasion of mainland Greece in about 480.

I first saw the trailer a few days ago and was intrigued until I started seeing a whole bunch of stuff that wasn't historically accurate. I'm still intrigued because it looks like a visually stunning movie (the shot where the arrows darken the sky made me go wow!) but I'm concerned about how far it will deviate from what really was an amazing feat of courage by Leonidas and the 300 Spartans.

I'm glad they decied to title it "300" rather than "Thermopyle" Give this thread a report after you've seen it and let us know what you think.

It is not based on history at all. It is based on a Frank Miller graphic novel, the same guy who wrote Sin City. It is not in any way supposed to be portrayed as history, save that is is VERY loosly based on a real event.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Sounds cool then.
