Hey All!

My name is Karen I am pretty new to the forum and I know a lot of parents have lots of challenges (maybe too soft of a word ;)) with potty training their child. I wrote a short article about 3 common mistakes that most parents make when trying to potty train their child.

The link is here: Top 3 Common Mistakes When Potty Training Their Child | Karen- The Potty Training Expert

I wrote this article in hopes to create some good will within this community so we could share information and all grow together.

I know all of you are busy so I made the article concise so it gets straight into the meat of it so you could take action immediately.

Again for the article click here: Top 3 Common Mistakes When Potty Training Their Child | Karen- The Potty Training Expert

I tired to put the article on here but the formatting wouldn't work and was very difficult to read. If you want me to try again just let me know!

Thanks for letting me share!

I think all three of those are good points, actually.

I thought it was going to be one of those "just wait until your toddler is ready" blogs, which really annoy me. Potty-training is one of those things I think parents should be diligent about making happen.

Actually I think you missed the biggie: developmental readiness. Just sayin'. No point in even trying until the child's body is ready to co~operate.

I agree. I will only start when a child is ready. I rather a child tell me he's ready, than deal with all the nonsense .

Physically a child is usually ready at 18 months or so, but mentally it's closer to 24 months. It really depends on what the expectations are. In China, the expectation is to potty train closer to 18 months, and those kids typically are. (They also have a social tolerance for potty training in public that wouldn't be acceptable in western culture, so that is definitely a factor in practicality.)

I'm a fan of early potty training. However, I'm not a fan of allowing children to "go potty" wherever they need to, including someone's lawn or an indoor trash can if that's the nearest place. And apparently cultures that potty-train nearer to 18 months do find those things acceptable. So waiting until the kid can actually make it to a real restroom is a good goal. Keeping kids in diapers until age 3 or 4... not so much.

Most boys I take care of are ready a month or 2 before 3 years old. I will never try to teach them until they show signs of being ready. I've learned my lesson. Any ways the potty training nonsense is usually over by 3 year old or 3 and half. I'm okay with the diapers and care more about their brains getting smart. If people want to that advise fine, but every advise I notice is kids aren't ready in her and that's the mistakes parents are making. But I don't care about how other peoples potty train and don't see why other people would care. If some one else's child is diapers until 3 or 4.

I don't care for babysitting kids who need their diapers changed. It's weird. Diapers are for babies. I always think, Seriously? They can't use a bathroom yet? And of course the smell. You can't just leave a kid in a pull up all day. (And if you're changing it frequently, might as well just take them to the bathroom.)

I also don't care for the "disposable everything" mentality, where people give no thoughts to the mountains of diapers going into landfills. Leaving kids in diapers well into their preschool years just reeks of that lazy, convenience-without-thought mentality. I just don't care for how common it is.

One I'm not lazy at all, I just think educations more important than what age a toddlers is potty trained. Also the landfills get so hot, it turns dead bodies to Almost nothing. So I'm sure not worried about diapers. Also the water crystals in diapers are good for keeping plants water, since it soaks up water and became as small as sand when they dry out, so I doubt they harm the land field. Any ways most kids I've watch are completely potty trained by 3. There have been a feel that weren't because they have development issues. I've have no problem with changing a 2 or 3 year old. I don't judge their parents about their child not being potty trained either. I have a bigger problem about them abusing their kids on other matters.

My 1st, male, we tried training at about 18 months. Impossible. He was clueless & his body just not ready. He trained himself in 24 hours a few days before his 3rd birthday. Never had an accident. My 3rd, female, trained herself at about 18 months but often misread her body's signals & would have accidents up until about 5. You cannot choose an arbitary age & declare that all kids should fit that mold. It just won't happen.
