When characters are put into a series from out of nowhere that's an example of "jumping the shark" in the TV business. It usually happens late in the series' run, and it's a sign that the show is being tampered with in an attempt to boost interest. TV viewers are jaded about all this. On this show we've had 2 1/2 seasons of basically the same crew. (The tailies were basically guest stars, only Bernard survived). Anyway, I'm sure the writers will come up with something interesting for whatstheirnames.

Niki and Paulo are lame character intruders into my favorite show's storyline. CC & DL said they had intended to integrate them into the story more gradually, but it didn't work out that way in the end. The result is two pretty universally hated characters who need to be disposed of with the quickness.

This show adds new characters all the time. Juilette is new this season and people aren't complaining about her.

I think that's because she's an Other and there's a reason for her presence in the story. Random Lostaways with no apparent purpose who suddenly have a relationship we've never seen developed with our favorite characters, are no fun.

And the way the characters are written, they want us to not like them. The "who the hell are you" from Sawyer, and the way my boy Dez smacked down Paolo (the thing with the 5 iron) real cool and cheerful like... and the new guy was speechless.

I have incredibly low expectations for this episode. It's almost sad.

I'll either be very pleasantly surprised, or else just annoyed that I stayed up until 11:00 to watch it instead of going to bed and waiting till morning.
