• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

what does throwing up blood mean?

It depends.

Do you have an ED? As you are posting in this forum, I will assume you do. I will also assume you are bulimic. Are you vomiting blood after everything else is gone?

This is dangerous because it means there is a tear or rip somewhere inside you, probably your stomach. This can get infected, or worse. It could also be from a tear in your esophagus (sp?).

Here's some information for you. The links are quoted with them:

Pale Reflections

Inflammation & rupture of the esophagus
Stomach acid irritates the esophagus, which can cause inflammation and raw areas, sometimes making swallowing painful. Of greater concern is a rupture of the esophagus, because this can be fatal in some cases. A Mallory-Weiss tear is the technical term for a the rupture of tearing of the mucous membrane of the esophagus at its junction with the stomach. It is caused by repeated vomiting (although it is possible for it to occur after just one purging episode) and the person will have bright red blood in their vomit. Although a tear often heals itself after a few days, this is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE AND YOU SHOULD ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU ARE VOMITING BLOOD.

Stomach ulceration
A peptic ulcer refers to an area of the stomach or duodenal lining (the tube that leads away from the stomach) which becomes eroded by stomach acid. These are known as stomach and duodenal ulcers, collectively known as peptic ulcers. The symptoms can vary, with some people not noticing anything out of the ordinary but others may vomit blood and experience abdomen or chest pains. The pain is usually increased when the individual eats or drinks. Peptic ulcers can be serious and need immediate attention if you are vomiting blood or passing digested blood in your stools.

Esophagus:

-Painful burning in throat or chest
-May vomit blood from small tear(s) in esophagus
-Rupture of the esophagus, may lead to circulatory collapse and death

Regardless of how long you have been bulimic or how often you vomit, you need to see a doctor. This could lead to major complications.

Are you seeking help?

Yes, that's bulimia, when you throw up things that you have eaten. You need to go see a doctor and then go see someone who can help you and figure out what the underlying issues are to make you do these things.

ive been getting stomch pains. the day after i threw up the blood, it wasnt much blood. but enough was there. anyway, on the tuesday i was in heaps of pain. wednesday i was fine, but thursday it came back again...and friday. i dont know...do u think it could be something serious?

I don't know. But what I do know is that a doctor will know.

So you need to make an appointment and get yourself to a doctors for a check up. Be serious and tell him/her exactly what's wrong and how you feel.

If it is serious, you need some help before it gets any worse.
