So you say w/o evidence. Just more scientific hubris at work.
Exactly. And that is what Just Stop Oil thinks they are doing. Everyone "thinks" their reasons are good. That's actually my point. Not in the manner of a fallacy.
As noted earlier in the thread, if you have good reasons (not fallacious reasons) to believe something, then consequences are what one validly uses to set future plans.
I'm with you on that. I've posted some extremely informative links on this and a few hundred other threads over the last couple of decades. Only what I link to goes a lot farther back than 50 years. Either people ad-hominem attack the source, or just ignore the info. I posted a few here and nobody responded. Crickets. So I just lead the horses to water from time to time and let them choose whether or not to drink. Some will, I know - because I did.... I see no point in linking 50 years worth of scientific data and analysis into this thread. If I did would you look at it?
What exactly do you say we need to do?Rapid reduction in fossil fuel burning urgently needed to preserve liveable conditions, say scientists, as climate damage deepens.
2023 smashes record for world’s hottest year by huge margin

2023 “smashed” the record for the hottest year by a huge margin, providing “dramatic testimony” of how much warmer and more dangerous today’s climate is from the cooler one in which human civilisation developed.
The planet was 1.48C hotter in 2023 compared with the period before the mass burning of fossil fuels ignited the climate crisis. The figure is very close to the 1.5C temperature target set by countries in Paris in 2015

I think we need to take this seriously. We are on the edge.
My point is not about reasons, but reasoning. Some reasoning is faulty (fallacious), and we should all strive to avoid such errors of reasoning.Everyone "thinks" their reasons are good. That's actually my point.
If your "links" are from a cherrypicking, disinformation site like "realclimatescience" then the reaction is well deserved.I'm with you on that. Stuff like this: Global Ice Retreat before 1910.
Don't know anything about that movie or why it would be relevant. It sort of reminds me of that movie, "Don't look up". The "deniers" were warning people all over the place about what was happening, but the leadership said everything was fine. And they silenced the "deniers that everything was fine" the best they could. I see that all over the place today. I suspect the movie was trying to make the exact opposite case, but the story was not about what was happening, it was about the response of the two sides of the issue. One is going deep on the facts while the other is light on facts and trying to silence the other side. Maybe that's why the movie faded from the picture. It missed its intended mark. Meanwhile, I thought it was hilarious. Especially the software predicting how the Meryl Streep character was gonna die.
First, listen to and try to understand the science. Next, modify your use of fossil fuels by changing your behaviour. Support and promote organisations which are committed to reductions in fossil fuel burning. Let your representatives know your concerns. What exactly do you say we need to do?
The EV issue is because people are addicted to cars. We need to change how we live so we don't have to use cars.It is hard to know where the truth is & what should be done. We all know that the “green people” have all the supposed solutions and skepticism towards their “solutions” will generally be responded with condescension & anger.
I believe an emerging example can be demonstrated in the issue of used electric vehicle (ev) batteries. A skeptic might question what will be done with this new garbage. “What do you mean?!!!” “It will be recycled of course (fool).” Really? the whole recycling industry seems to be on the verge of collapse in the area of glass, plastic, paper etc . I wish this was not so but it is. I even believe priority should be shifted to finding ways to hopefully eliminate the use of plastic ( which is a real environmental disaster) instead of this most likely emerging EV boondoggle.
No, I think you're wrong about that. What causes condescension and anger is intentional misrepresentation of the solutions, Remember when the Green New Deal was a planned socialist takeover? When armed government agents were going to seize and destroy all our automobiles?? Outlaw air travel? Slaughter every head of cattle in the country? It is hard to know where the truth is & what should be done. We all know that the “green people” have all the supposed solutions and skepticism towards their “solutions” will generally be responded with condescension & anger.
Of course that's a problem that has to be dealt with. But the switch to EVs is in its infancy and there are some interesting solutions being tested. The most likely is the standardization of battery design so that used batteries can be rebuilt in automated factories.I believe an emerging example can be demonstrated in the issue of used electric vehicle (ev) batteries.
