Welcome, 2022!
We got 3 kinds of seed potatoes laid out.
We bought 2 bags of potting soil.
The grow lights are being put up.
Beds are being fluffed up and Barb is sorting and ordering more seeds.
Get ready... get set....!!!!

Got about 50 tomato seeds in the pots. 30 Mortgage Lifters and 20 Delicious. Only have a few Juliets so they will have to wait a few days.
Also, put in about 80 onion sets (white). Worked about an hour out in the garden preparing soil. Looking better this year. Fewer and fewer hard dry spots.

Good for you.

We love garden tomatoes. Didn't they change canning instructions a few years ago?
Not sure tturt. The wife is the canner. I dehydrate. Perhaps something about lemon juice?

Seems it was because tomatoes aren't as acidic as they once were. Do you know what types of tomatoes are acidic? The ones from the grocery don`t seem to have much taste.
Yup.... Barb said it was for both safety and taste.

I planted 7 rows of garlic last Fall....can't wait for it to come up! Still covered in snow....we are just eating our last bulb of garlic from last harvest...

And we built a greenhouse last year, too....can't wait to utilize it :)

Great work. We have not had a lot of success with garlic or onions. We are trying again this year. Never give up! We will find the right brand/timing/soil eventually.

Onions, Kale, Tomatoes (inside) and Lettice are all coming up today. I am digging out the potato patch to get chittings out in the next day or two. I have some pepper seeds in a bag trying to get them to throw roots. They are kind of old so they may not geminate... still watching. I am working on the strawberry bed. I thinned out a crowded area and moved the plants over to a thin area. Strawberries are good about letting you move them around. I threw some Miracle Grow to all beds. I already hit them all with 10 10 10 last week. Going to the Ace Hardware to pick up some Black Kow. It is 4.99 a bag. Moving on!

We pulled in some Rutabaga and Carrots today. Fresh out of the garden. Steamed them. Some butter and salt and pepper.
Don't get any better than that.

I worked out in the garden yesterday, too! Which is a rare thing here in NE, OH! It almost hit 70 degrees here yesterday. My garlic is coming along nicely and I have some wonderful volunteer lettuce that's been coming up for 3 years all on it's own. Just love working outside in the dirt....it's THERAPY for me :)

Wonderful. Some of our best plants are volunteers. We have a few squashes somehow coming up in a bed where we have never planted squash???
I love it when the work is done and the wife and I just sit in our Adirondack chairs, look at the garden listen to the birds, and sip a drink. Thank the Lord.

Yes, last year we had the same thing, a volunteer squash came up in a garden that had had no squash in it....and it was a kind I had never planted. It must have crossed from a couple other kinds... You won't believe it, but that ONE PLANT produced over 70 squash! They were delicious! This is just ONE PLANT!

Wow... similar here. We have squash coming up where we did not plant last year. We assume it came out with kitchen scraps. Usually, we either toss the scraps in the compost or bury them in a fallow bed. I assume the latter caused them to come up. Last year we had acorn, Italian zucchini, and zucchini.

Stormy weather this AM. High winds, news said 80 mph. Not that high here. Some plants got blown around but not bad. Cold weather expected tonight. I am putting mulch over some of the smaller tender plants. I just put out 4 peppers. Potatoes are just popping out of the ground. These will all be covered. Praise the Lord in all things!!!

I bought a couple of seed kits for things that are for small spaces and/or can be grown indoors under the proper conditions, so I may do some garden experimenting once those come in. They're also sealed for long-term storage so if I don't get to it, I'll still have them as I've heard that there may be seed shortages in the nearish future.

Good idea. There are some kits with thousands of seed from hundreds of plants. We have one somewhere around here. My son has a big one.
Good idea indeed.

Yes, I think that is good idea, too! There are already quite a few places that are out of a variety of seeds. I have some saved from my garden before, too.
