I'm just curious...for the people who don't believe that God loves everyone, why do you think so? Is there something in the Bible that implies this? I believe that He loves everyone...

God hated Esau. I think there's more to it than that, but that's the simplest answer.

Christians should go to church and take communion, but not necessary for salvation.
I hope the pope talks to God and God talks to Him. The pope needs Jesus just like the rest of us do.

I'm just curious...for the people who don't believe that God loves everyone, why do you think so? Is there something in the Bible that implies this? I believe that He loves everyone...
So do I. He loves everyone so much He desires relationship with everyone. But there is a standard for that relationship, and that standard is a perfection we cannot attain to as imperfect people, not made imperfect by God, but made imperfect by the sin nature inherited from Adam by his disobedience. See this in Genesis chapters one and two.

God, being the loving Being He is, understood this before Adam ever took the fruit from Eve. He already had the plan in place for our deliverance, a plan that did not depend on our performance but on our love for Him! Upon what would that love be based?

This: that He loved us so much that He came down from heaven, not thinking His perfection and eternal existence a thing to be held onto tightly, but instead emptying Himself of that perfection, that "God-state," and taking on the form of the very beings who had separated themselves from that relationship He desired with them. Because Jesus did this, God exalted Him above all others, and declared that every knee should bow and every person confess Christ is Lord, but most who do this will do so at the judgment day, and then it will be too late. This is in Philippians chapter two, verses five to 11.

Thus clothed in the appearance of a man, God as Jesus Christ degraded Himself by accepting death on the torture tool of the Roman empire, the cross. It was an implement that was reserved for only the most despicable and and vile of criminals, yet He Himself had so sin to bear in death! Paul teaches this throughout the first eight chapters of Romans, and from the Jewish perspective the writer of Hebrews relates it to the Law and the Commandments.

Jesus is God! God has done nothing deserving of that humiliating and excruciatingly painful, awful death.
But He bore it anyway! Why?

To restore for us what we had forsaken as Adam's race. We have no choice in carrying into and through this life our sin nature. But nonetheless we carry it. We act on it. Though bearing the sin nature, if we could somehow resist the sin, we could, perhaps, "squeak by" but there is no one who can resist. Even before they truly understand right from wrong, children act and think sinfully, and that would condemn them even without having the sin nature.

The sin nature, however, is why we sin. Our ancestor made the choice for us as to why we sin, but we make the choice to actually sin. And a thought is enough to break any pretended perfection we have, and certainly none of us limits our sin to mere thoughts. Compare it to a large 12-egg omelet. If one of my eggs is rotten and I put it in the omelet anyway, is only 1/12th of the omelet ruined? Or is the entire omelet ruined? Of course, the whole omelet.

As it is with our lives, in relationship to how God sees us. One sin does not separate us "that much" from God but leave the rest of the relationship intact. He loves us, but He cannot abide the sin within our lives, and thus by one single solitary sin, we are separated from experiencing the relationship and love He has to offer. He still loves us with an everlasting love, but the sin keeps us from realizing it. The prophet Habakkuk asks in chapter 1, verse 13 of his short book:

Your eyes are too pure to approve evil,
And You can not look on wickedness with favor.
Why do You look with favor
On those who deal treacherously?
Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up
Those more righteous than they?

This raises the question (since Habakkuk is talking about the unrighteous and unbelieving nations that slay Israel constantly) as to why God doesn't strike evil down the instant it appears? I don't have an answer, beyond that I trust that it suits His purpose to punish evil in His time, not in the time I think appropriate. I'm not God. He is. That's my answer.

At the personal level, where God is seeking the unbeliever to become a believer, tt is as parents with a drug-addicted, lying, thieving, hopeless son who love him, who
cannot let him into their home, for he will steal from them, lie to them, and then disappear again to renew his degradation. They must love him from afar. So God is forced to love the unrepentant and unwilling sinner from afar. For the parents, it is to protect their sanity and the sanctity of their home and finances. For God, is it the unbearable presence of the sin in the unrepentant. All love the wayward child, but none can bear the pain caused of, from ,and by, the sin in the one they love.

When the drug-addicted son comes to the end of himself and gets into rehab and gets a job and shows a willingness to ask for help, the parents attitude changes, and they again, after a time, trust him again and open their home to him again. With God, it is much more simple.

Jesus Christ restored to us that relationship that we inwardly desire. Our own human spirit is that part of God He left in us even after Adam's failure, it is the part of us designed to seek Him out when He calls. Thanks be to Him that He did leave that human spirit intact, even though it leads us so far astray in seeking after false gods and worldly pleasures we think will fill a God-shaped hole in our very core being. Otherwise we would have no hope at all, because there would be no part of us that would respond when He calls.

And God calls to us all, everyone, because He loves us all just as you said. When we demonstrate acceptance of His Son Jesus Christ as our Savior and our Lord by confessing our faith in His death on the cross as sufficient payment for our sins, and by demonstrating a truly repentant heart that acknowledges the need for a Savior, we are restored. With the parents of the drug addict, trust requires time. With God, He knows when you have trusted Jesus, and your life changes, instantly. You are restored to relationship, and unlike a relapse for the drug addict that again breaks relationship with His parents, a "relapse" into sin breaks only the ability to experience God, to have fellowship with Him. When we confess that sin, fellowship is restored, and we can experience God's love, devotion, reward, and blessings again.

God loves everyone. But that love is realized fully only if we know and acknowledge who He truly is. If we know that He loves us but think that carries no obligation, the result is the same as a marriage in which one partner takes only, and does not give. It really is no marriage, and there will never be any real relationship.

Love always requires commitment. Commitment comes through agreement of expectation. All God expects is faith in Him to be Who He has said He is. It is a pretty effortless commitment.

It is the process of growth into that relationship and the realization as it develops as to how deep, and abiding, and complex it truly is that it becomes apparent how much we were missing when we also believed that God loves everyone -- but failed to realize what that actually means.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

There's a thread for this discussion, and it's not here.

IisJustMe, I agree with you...when I said that God loves everyone, I didn't mean that we don't have to respond to Him somehow in order to be saved. We do, but I was trying to say that He loves even the people who have rejected Him, and we can't earn His love in any way.
:)

I assumed. We all knew what happens when we assume (to quote the world, which really isn't a very good idea here, but such is life at times).

1) God loves everyone - T
2) Jesus is God - T
3) Pets can go to Heaven - T (read "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn)
4) Pets can go to Hell - F
5) We are born without sin - F (Psalm 51:5)
6) Mormons are Christians - F (it's a cult)
7) Muslims who refuse Christ can go to Heaven - F (no one enters heaven without Christ)
8) Jews who refuse Christ can go to Heaven - F (no one enters heaven without Christ)
9) Practising homosexuals can go to Heaven - F (Gen. 19:4-13; Lev. 18:22; Lev. 20:13; Rom. 1:26-28; 1 Tim. 1:8-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; 2 Peter 2:6; Jude 7)
10) We are no longer under the law of the Old Testament - very complicated question. the covenant of the law has "birthed" into the covenant of grace. Jesus fulfilled the law. in short, i would answer True, but a long discussion would need to take place :D
11) There is a Hell - T
12) Christians can pray to Saints - F (you can if you want but it won't be efficacious; praying to the Father in Jesus' name is the only way to "get results")
13) Christians need to take communion - complicated. i would say yes, but wouldn't want to put down my final answer.
14) Christians need to go to church - again complicated. i would say just like verse 13 that neither are necessary for salvation but both are going to be present in the life of a believer. So T and F ;)
15) The pope speaks to God - T (if he prays, yes)
16) God speaks to the pope - T (if God wants to He can, just like any of us. i don't believe the Pope has a unique connection with God, just a special connection with God, the same special connection we all share)
17) Mary was a virgin (when pregnant with Jesus) - T
18) Jesus, on the cross, asked why His Father had forsaken Him. - T
19) The Bible was written by God - T (written by men inspired by God, but the authorship should be properly ultimately credited to God)
20) The Bible is infallable - T

I apologize if anyone is offended... :swoon:

1) God loves everyone...
He is love

2) Jesus is God...
True, but separate from the Father.

3) Pets can go to Heaven...
If you mean New Jerusalem, sure
4) Pets can go to Hell...
False.
5) We are born without sin...
We are born into sin.

6) Mormons are Christians....
False.
7) Muslims who refuse Christ can go to Heaven...
False... they serve a different God, so even in ignorance of Messiah they are not serving the Mighty One.
8) Jews who refuse Christ can go to Heaven...
This one is touchy... again, New Jerusalem.... and I'd have to say the Jews that actually REFUSE would not.. but if they don't have knowledge or have not had opportunity to see Messiah then I would say TRUE because many do serve the Mighty One with good hearts..

9) Practicing homosexuals can go to Heaven.
False.

10) We are no longer under the law of the Old Testament.
We are no longer UNDER it... but we are still to FOLLOW it...

11) There is a Hell.
Sh'ol(or Hades for ya Greeks), Tartarus and Gehenna... sure!

12) Christians can pray to Saints.
False.

13) Christians need to take communion.
Not the communion that is practiced in churches...
14) Christians need to go to church.
It's probably the last thing they need to be doing, no more Sun god worship.. start observing Shabbat!
15) The pope speaks to God.
I'm sure he does, but I doubt his prayers reach the heavens.
16) God speaks to the pope.
I'm sure he has in the past too, in the form of conviction or something... I do not believe most of his public statements that claims are from God.
17) Mary was a virgin (when pregnant with Jesus)
Absolutely.

18) Jesus, on the cross, asked why His Father had forsaken Him.
False. First of all, He was on a stake or a tree... NOT ON A CROSS which was a symbol of Sun god worship... and according to the original aramaic text, Yeshua did NOT ask God why He had forsaken Him... he said for this was His destiny...

19) The Bible was written by God.
The Torah was written by God through the hands of Moses... the prophets, history, and new testament are definitely inspired but clearly wrote through many authors.

20) The Bible is infallable.
Absolutely, however, there are many important books that should be in the cannon imo... Book of Enoch, Book of Maccabees(1-4), Testament of the 12 Patriarchs, Book of Jasher

To all those who san practising homosexuals can go to heaven; Lev. 20:13. If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Practising homosexuals are sinners in the eyes of God. If they ask Jesus to be Lord of their life and live a Christian life then yes they can go to heaven. But not if they are still having sex with men.

Are you saying this sin is the only sin, other than unbelief, that cannot be covered by the grace of God? And if not that sin, then what about your own? What makes it special enough to be covered by His grace, and let another sin stand uncovered?

he is not saying that, don't put words in his mouth. also, don't jack this thread. i hope a mod comes along and deletes the last 3 posts (including mine). What he is saying is that a practicing homosexual does not get into heaven. READ SCRIPTURE! If someone makes a PRACTICE of ANY SIN, they will not make it to heaven.

Read 1 Corinthians 6. People who make a practice of homosexuality will not enter God's Kingdom. Neither will people that make a practice of adultery. Neither will people who make a practice of getting drunk.

If someone has homosexual sex a "few" times and repents of it, they will be in God's Kingdom with the rest of the Faithful. If someone gets drunk a "few" times, they will be in God's Kingdom with the rest of the Faithful. But if someone gets drunk "regularly" throughout their life and doesn't really repent, they will spend eternity in hell. The same with a homosexual. If they regularly commit the homosexual act and never really repent, they will spend eternity in hell.

Is that clearer for you? Do you not understand Scripture? Do you try to defend one sin over another sin b/c you think one is genetic or a lifestyle or natural? Sin is sin. God's Word clearly tells us what is sin. Homosexuality is sin.

Your argument is with God and His Word, not with me or with spiritwarrior37.

Blessings.

EDIT: Grace does not cover continued, willful rebellion. Unless you are a Universalist. And that is a whole other discussion.
