Peace in Christ.
There are 2 resurrections….one for the “dead” who have mortally perished and one for the “living” who will never mortally die …having an age-lasting life (aka “eternal life”).
The “dead” mortally perish. They had believed in Christ but did not hear the truth of the gospel as their “preachers” that they listened to had no knowledge of it. The truth of the gospel had been hid from those who perish….the “dead”.
Jesus makes the distinction of the resurrection between the 2 groups who believe in Him to Martha.
John 11:
23Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
The “dead” who believed in Christ but mortally die shall be resurrected AT THE LAST DAY OF THIS AGE (at the “last trump” moment). Though they die, they shall live…rising again at the last day. He is the resurrection and the life for both groups...the dead and the living.
25Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
But Jesus makes a distinction between that first group (the “dead” who have died) and the last group (the “living” who LIVES and believes in Him).
This group that “lives and believes” in Him shall NEVER DIE INTO THE AGE.
They will continue to live into the duration of this present evil age that we are living in TO THE LAST DAY of this age.
They participate in the “first resurrection” as they will never mortally die and will reach the “last trump” moment where they will then put on immortality. They will completely circumvent death by living and believing in Him TO THE LAST DAY.
26And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die- into the age. Do you believe this?”
Both groups (the “dead” and the “living”) believe in Christ, the Son of God. One group never heard the truth of the gospel and had perished. Yet, He is Lord of both groups. He is Lord of both the dead and the living.
27She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
Again, Jesus makes this distinction between both groups of believers in John 6.
Jesus will not lose anything….even the “dead” for will raise them up AT THE LAST DAY of this age. This is the will of the Father who sent Him.
John 6:
39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.
AND this is also the will of Him who sent Jesus. He says it twice indication this is the will for the other group of believers….the “living” group.
This group “sees” (understands) the Son and believes in Him so that they have an age-lasting life (aka “everlasting life”). They hear His testimony. They hear the truth of the gospel that had been hid from those who believe in Christ but are mortally perishing
Jesus keeps them...the living group... mortally standing TO THE LAST DAY. They never perish in their mortal bodies and make it to the last day where they put on immortality.
40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have age-lasting life (everlasting life); and I SHALL BE STANDING him up to the last day.”
There are 2 resurrections. One for the dead and one for the living.
Christ “the firstfruits” are the “living” who participate in the “first resurrection” and continue to mortally live TO THE LAST DAY of this age. The 2nd group…the “dead”… are not raised until He comes again.
1 Corinthians 15
22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
Then the end of this age will come when He hands over the kingdom to God AFTER He has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. The last enemy to be destroyed at the very end of this age is death.
24Then the end (of this age) will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
25For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
26The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
There is the distinction of the resurrections of both groups. Both groups are “changed” according to their status.
Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom/government of God. This is the “living” group (the flesh and blood group) who never mortally die. They are to be “changed” from their mortal status into immortal “at the last trump” of this age in order to enter into the next age to inherit the kingdom/government of God.
The “perishable” are the “dead” who had mortally perished. They are to be resurrected AT that last trump moment. They are changed also: raised imperishable in order to enter into the coming age to inherit the kingdom/government of God.
1 Corinthians 15:
50Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
The “living” group does not “sleep” like the “dead” who had mortally perished. “we shall not all sleep”….like Lazarus did.
The dead who had perished mortally shall then be raised imperishable.
We shall not all sleep (as the living never die) but we all (both dead and the living) shall be changed in order to enter into the next age where we inherit His kingdom.
51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
52in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
2 groups of believers. One perished but shall be raised imperishable AT the last day of this age. The ‘living” group of believers though will not perish but will continue to live (being “mortal” means that they are “liable to death”…but have not died_. They will be changed by having their mortal bodies put on immortality.
53 For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”h
55“Where, O Death, is your victory?
Where, O Death, is your sting?”
