  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For the first birthday I invite our close friends and family to our home, make a child friendly dinner (something that my baby really likes to eat) and then we get a cake. After dinner I give the baby some cake (after stripping down to diaper) and then let them have at the cake. I take lots of pictures of the baby making mess of the cake, and pictures of the baby with his presents. My boys wouldn't open them at 1 but daddy would help them open and I'd take all the pictures..I still have some of the cutest pictures from the first birthday and boy are they a mess!

We didn't do anything big either. My mom made a ladybug cake and we just had a tea with family and her little cousins.

I know some people go all out for the first birthday, but I figured she would be too young to remember so it would be a waste of money. She still had the photos of her and her cousins with her cake and their party hats etc.

Her second was pretty low-key too. We actually only had a proper party for her recently when she turned 3, because at this age she is lovin' the party thing, she was so excited about her birthday.

We invited family and friends to our first child's BD party. To our second child's party we just invited family. I'm pretty much done having BD parties with our kids for everyone to come unless we do something when they get older. DH's step-granny tries to butt in and take over and it GRATES on my nerves. LOL Last year (and it's our plans this year) we went out of town for their birthdays so we didn't have to deal with the expected party and family.

I wanna do something but I don't want in-laws there at all. The idea of going out of town suits me! Although I would like my parents to be there. B'days were always big in our family & still kinda are.

My family goes with us. ;)

What did you do for your little one? Or planning to do?

We seem to be in the minority amongst the larger world--but we do almost nothing. We don't buy presents and just have a little cake with just us. I figure it's really a day to celebrate me, and my giving birth. I usually look through all of my birth photos and tell the birth story again..and I usually do something nice and pamper-y for myself.

The 1st birthday is a day really for the rest of the family. We get everyone together as a celebration of the first year of the childs life. We see how much they have grown and celebrate that they are with us. We invite grandparents and aunties/uncles, and close friends. Usually people will bring a plate, I may organise one dish and I love to do the b'day cake. Actually for my son we just did coffee/cake for afternoon tea and that was nice. The family love to get them special presents too (we usually don't do many presents).

She really loved her cake :) We ordered the big one from Wal*Mart and then they gave us the small for free since it was her first birthday.

We're having two parties. I decided since my mom can't/won't make the Gummibär cake my DH was set on (yay for no green icing! LOL) -- we're doing a Pooh "party".

We'll have a small get together with DH, Baby, my parents and my sister and her DH and the cake... not sure what we're eating yet other than that. I'll help make the cake and icing. haven't decided if it is to be cupcakes and a cake that my sis can take home so it's easier on my mom making icing or not.... (dad has to have icing made special for him).

When we get home, the family here wants to do a party too - so in July we'll have another party. I am not sure what we'll do for cake/cupcakes... I'm not that crafty-minded at the moment.

Jonathan will get a cupcake to destroy for the camera.

Love it! I've always wondered if babies get hyped up after their first bite of all that sugar!
